I have a friend with a problem with her pc. now i can usually fix most problems with hardware and others, but this has gotten me stumped. It first started when she installed MS office 2007. so i'm guessing its software related. Here is what she said

"I just wanted to ask you a question to see if you know what might be wrong with it. Well basically over night I downloaded Microsoft Office 7, like a genuine copy that I paid for, and well when I went to use my computer the next morning it turned it self off, and then it came on the BIOS screen, saying I should select "start windows normally" So I did, and then, it came up with packard bell, then a black screen, then it says no screen input, and then it says, windows xp home edition, loading and then the green bar starts to load and then suddently it goes back to start windows normally and so I have tried to start in safe mode, still doesn't work.

I pressed F8 to go into the BIOS settings, but I didn't want to change anything as I don't know much about it, but it said my IDE Slave was not installed or something, so I don't know if that has anything to do with it? But like I was wondering, with your knowledge and expertise, you may know what it means? If you could help that would be really appreciated, but if you can't or don't want to I understand. Thank you."

Could anybody give me a hand with it. thanks guys

well, i know that its a 100% legal version she downloaded as its from a microsoft official site for ucas students in england so i doubt it was a virus. but I will try to see if i can connect it to my pc and recover as much data as possible and tell her that it needs to be clean installed. Will try the usual things first. Thanks for the help guys

Looks like i might be dismantling her machine then. sadly I am broke and doing pc repairs to keep me afloat. So i will just see what i can do and use her other pc to save data on and see if i can save her personal one.
