CT1 is great stuff. You can buy it at Edmundsons electrical wholesalers
 
Id use a silicone based solution

Can't see why it would cause any chemical problems ECT ive checked the MSDS sheet for it. Basically dont put it in your eye and your all good!

EDIT : can't say for sure though without using it before!

Sugru as suggested is exactly what you need. Sets hard, in rubber form and can be applied with fingers,
