A halt in my gaming

How on earth did someone find the time to take a 65 inch TV off the wall without no one noticing and empty your house too!

I had someone try and get into my house a few years back, thankfully the house alarm went off and they legged it.

dunno , we were away for one night , we have an elderly neighbor one side and a young couple the other . they must have had a massive van !! the house is now like fort knox

Someone broke into a home and took a PC from a gamer/enthusiast, as well as a new build but not much else taken.

Makes you wonder who it can be, chances are that you have met them or at least know an acquaintance of theirs. Maybe your name was mentioned as a game by a friend to them, a bit of scoping from the street and Facebook to see what you have to offer and how easy it would be.

A scary thought, not sure which would be scarier, a planned burglary by someone who has seen you before or an opportunist who saw no one was in.

Given what was taken could be either, but there are also instances where they are after certain items i.e jewelery and this is an even more organised crime.

Did you not read the T's&C's when you purchased the insurance?

I believe most stipulate that expensive items must be defined in the policy.

had the same insurance company for 10 years or so , they wanted to list my AV gear in with the wife jewelry (max 7k i think) , but we said no way! and they relented

my stuff ended up in Bosnia Herzegovina , we know this because we locked the ipads and a woman got in touch through whatsap asking us to unlock it !!!!

it was my lads ipad we had it engraved saying with love from santa on the back , i asked her to send it back , we told the police (they didn't want to know)they said just delete the message and forget about it :-(

so , to the OP i know whats its like to have strangers go through your home , its a terrible experience, we got our place back together pretty quick and gave the place a complete make over (painted etc) hope you get yours sorted and try not to dwell on it (i still do from time to time ,but hey we are still all alive and its just "stuff") .
everyone else make sure you have a good policy :-)

I'm a police officer - I spent 3 years on the Burglary/Robbery team. You will be surprised just what people ignore or just don't bother reporting!

Ah I understand, sorry. I've learnt a few lessons the hard way too. Glad to hear you got everything sorted.

Best of luck to the OP doing the same.

Thanks , to be fair the insurance company were very good after the initicial trying to screw us over !

It's just the thought of these scum in my house that winds me up

Damn that sucks. I've been broken into twice so know how you feel! The first time I was asleep upstairs, they got in downstairs, took my car and mountain bike. Second time, I was away for the weekend, they got in, trashed the house and stole my laptop. I'm totally paranoid now, good doors, locks, alarm, dog etc. The main aim is to make my house look like more hard work to break into than my neighbours houses.

That was by far the worst bit for me!

I'm in the same boat but with my camera equipment.

Last Thursday night at about 23:30 I got a sudden banging on my front door - what appeared to be a drunk knocking on the wrong house. But that was just a ruse for any passers by and they were preparing to break in. I looked out the window and there were about 7 adult chavs loitering, a couple of them were trying to kick down my door. They also tried the rear gate. It went on for about 30 mins. I called the police but by the time they arrived they had scarpered. They returned the next day while I was at work to finish the 'job'.

The thing that gets me is that the police said what happened at night time was just students messing around. They wouldn't link it the actual burglary during the day.

Lessons learned for me is that:
  • UPVC doors and locks are a bit crap.
  • CCTV or photo evidence is a must - looking into a Blue Iris setup.
  • Always keep receipts and photos of expensive items you own for insurance purposes.

Unlucky bud. On the plus side, we might see the dollar tank and it wont cost that much to get back into the chair.

This, I've heard of a burglar stealing: money, jewellery before but a pc?
