I came across a fantastic little product which I wanted to share incase it helped anyone else. My caulking skills are poor, I find it very difficult to get a nice even finish using my finger.

These have changed the game: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170918551035&ssPageName=ADME:L:OU:GB:3160

I caulked my entire conservatory at the weekend between walls and between PVCu and the window sills. I used a nice 45 degree edge and it looks brilliant. I'd never be able to get a finish like it using my finger. You can also use these for mastic/silicone sealant.

This may be a stupid question, but how do you know which one to use and which end to use?

Or just use washing up mix, in a spray bottle. Spray on the area before applying the sealant, use your finger and a rag and wipe off the excess. A very nice clean finish…… simple……..

You can pick whichever one is most applicable, I'm sure there are different shapes for different work but I went with one that gave me a nice finish but also fit 90 degrees between the 2 surfaces.

The tool is made of silicon so you can bend it very slightly as well. Really impressed plus you can wash it and use it again.

Might look into it. The last time I tried applying kitchen sealant it took forever to clean off my hands. I tried latex gloves too but they gripped too much to the surface and got stuck a lot.

Yeah, fugenboys are great for getting a nice uniform finish.

Coupled with a careful application of good quality (dow corning) silicone they look much better than smoothed with a finger.

No need to mask up or whatever people go on about, if you approach things with a bit of grey matter where it matters you don't need to arse about.

I just use a wet washing up sponge folded in half. Works fine for me. I do have issues using my finger as well though  and to be honest I stopped using my finger completely when I ripped it on a dodgy bit of skirting.

In a similar vein, I use this which I got from Amazon for a few quid. Brand is Everbuild.

Not as flexible as some of the sets posted above, but does a great job along 90 degree joins (i.e. baths) when dipped in a washing up liquid solution.

Yes indeed been using the fugi kit for years now. All the pro's use it. Although can be a little cumbersome behind taps etc where the good old finger triumphs!

I picked up a Fugi kit the other week which is similar.

I like to think I could recreate the Sistine chapel with caulk, a decent gun and a wet finger but silicone is just a pain.

Assuming the two surfaces aren't at an odd angle I've had really good results with no masking and no soapy water.
