Hi there. I am lately in the mood to start a "heavy, deep'' RPG. You know, one with a good, evolving story, lots of stats (base armor value, modifiers, dices that sort of staff) and good-acceptable at least graphics. Been playing Jade Empire lately, which i love but i would like something deeper, more dice- thrown in- the -background thing.
Anything comes to mind? NWN2?

ToEE is brilliant with the fan patch mentioned above. It's small in scope, but wonderfully deep and enjoyable. Brilliant isometric graphics too.

Thanks! I have finished KOTOR 1 & 2 and Baldurs Gate 2. I started Icewind Dale but lost interest due to less than acceptable (for me) graphics.
I guess i am looking for something like KOTOR...
Do you thing Mass effect will suit my gaming needs when it comes out for PC?
Until then?

Vampire the masquarade redemption multiplayer as that has dice rolling mode so u have the host being dungeon keeper kinda.

Mass Effect is KOTOR3 without the star wars license :D

You'll love it.

Incredible game and it should be coming to PC soon, Knights of the old republic is an absolute gem of a classic and should be the first on your list.

The Witcher is also a good game but i would try the demo as some people seem to hate/love it.

Thanks! I tried Witcher but hated the combat system. Ifelt all i was doing was trying to allign a dot (crosshair) with the enemy and then wait for the sword icon to turn to flaming to repeat the combo.
Played Kotor. Loved it.
I am surprised no one mentioned NWN2 (and the expansion). Was my first choice be4 posting.

Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion?

Because you mentioned it in your first post.

I'd go with Vampire Bloodlines (easy to get for £5-10 quid now). Should keep you busy for a week or two.

just played kotor on vista 64 and finished the other day, one issue with newer gfx cards, or maybe just ati. Had to add a line into config as when I hit dantooine it went bat****crazy.

Disable Vertex Buffer Objects=1

think it was that, add to kotor.ini file under graphics options. Otherwise you get screen freezing for a few seconds and found you're run across the area, then freeze again, impossible to get anywhere. Might be ati specific, might not be. would think a simple patch would make it compatible. Took ages to find that info and thought i'd plowed hours into playing a game i couldn't get further in :p

I need to play Vampire Bloodlines, NWN2 was awful imho, played minutes, hated the limited view, ackward play style, combat, just really didn't like it. Morrowind was i think ok, never got around to finishing it. Oblivion wasn't good either, maybe its less crap with mod's but frankly, its people who have played it since the first mod who know which 45 mods to add to make it good, know the order to load and whats compatible, starting now you have no chance.

Witcher, exactly like you, i thought the combat was beyond ridiculous and based on the first hour its "look at my boobs, 4 seconds of story, my boobs are bouncing, go click on something to attack it and wait for a combo so you can click". Aimed at 12 year olds imho.

Kotor2 I can't seem to find anywhere around the house though fancy replaying that too.

Mass Effect as said is Kotor 3 not based on Star Wars but, maybe was better because of it? Its a great story, part of a trilogy that was writen as a trilogy to start. But it was writen in a way that , well at least this first part has a fantastic story start to finish and a really decent finish. Its not a cliffhanger pile of crap ending that makes you angry as hell(half life2, ep 1, ep 2) where nothing really finishes.

Think its out maybe this month? next month. Certainly worth the wait, its actually very playable on the 360 but should be nicer and probably improved a little on PC. I'm not sure if combat is dice based or not. For instance hellgate gives the FPS view and guns that shoot as if you are aiming but really its DICE decided behind the scene. Mass Effect has the FPS aim and shoot but it might be a fake interface aswell, either way it works nicely. Side missions were poor but all the main stuff is really good.

Haven't been many decent RPG's in the last couple of years though, Bioware seem to be the best at it, kotor, Jade, Mass Effect. They've got two more Mass Effects to come and possibly by the sounds of it a Kotor 3, or maybe even a MMO?
