Basically, Going to spend my evening's this week playing through Half Life 2 again.

However, when I start the game up, *says 64 bit mode in the top right* and go to load or start a new game, it quite often says "A.I Disabled" along with something being out of date ?

What is this ?

And how do I fix my AI ?

I had this multiple times. Unfortunately I have no idea how I fixed it :(

Lots of Google results pointing to it being caused by pirate copies of the game, but mine was legit.

Fixed it ! :)

64 bit is bugged, so you have to add -32 to you're launch options ! and play the game in 32 bit, better then nothing I suppose !

Might whack some mod's on, any decent ones that you recommend ?

Definately fakefactory 9.51 if you can bear the download which is big.

Whilst the Cinematic mod is nice and all.. it doesn't play nicely with 32bit, which creates the OP's problem once more.
The cinematic mod requires 64bit memory addressing to work well without constant crashing.

Just to let you know...

I've just tested HL2 on my Vista64 machine and it seems to run fine in 64bit mode (I have the "64bit enabled" tab showing). I'd be tempted to try the reinstall/verify gcf route.

I've ran Half Life 2 fine before in 64 bit fine before, I recently just reinstalled this game (via Steam) and alas this has happened.

Moo :(

Fixed playing in 32 bit, which will do me fine at the moment, I shall be reinstalling Vista over the next couple of weeks, and reformatting the hard drives, so it's not a big deal.

It's quite a well known issue.

Even if you do start playing in 64 bit mode fine, it's quite likely to develop the issues in a later chapter I've found. And your saves don't transfer between the two so you've wasted time then.

I'm just playing through Half Life 2 and the Episodes, I'm reformatting and reinstalling Vista in a few weeks and I'm not too bothered about saved games.
