A kink has appeared in my loop! Drainage advice.

Well I hooked up my (first ever) water cooling loop the other week. One of the tubes was verging on kinking but seemed to be OK. Now a few weeks later this part of the system has now kinked, pretty badly!!

What is the best way of draining the system? It needs to be fully drained as I plan on changing a few tubes around. I can imagine that I could potentially get quite wet?

I am using the xspc single bay pump & res & xchanger 120.2 rad.

Thanks

I normally drop the cpu block off put it over a washing up bowl and cut the hose and let it drain as best it can then think logically on what could potentially leak next. If your really that worried about it would take all the main components out ( mobo gfx ) or anything that could be potentially touched by fluid as well.

Hope that helps

Good plan, I want to re-use the fluid as it has only been in a few weeks! Will just put it in a measuring jug.

Thanks for the help :)

I imagine the reason it kinked after you initially set everything up was because once the system is running the warmer water will soften them and any parts on the verge of kinking when cold will therefore kink when warm. If it was me I would have a go a reinforcing the kinked area with cables ties in-situ to prevent it changing shape as a first job, rather than draining and re-routing, if it was just the kinking that was the only issue.

Does that mean he would also have to remove the gpu block aswell? Seems a lot of work to do each time you want to change something.

Or anti-kink coils. Taking the block off seems like a lot of hassle. I turn my case upside down and undo the screw on the external thermochill radiator - takes a few minutes or so.

Quick fix, cable tie around the offending kink.

Permanent fix - get some coil springs or use elbows. There are some pretty good ones now that are not as tight as before.

I would try fitting some anti kink coils. There are less than £3 on here!

UNLESS you want to change you loop order or something like that. Dont forget that you are using 7/16 tubing on 1/2 barbs. You will need to cut the tubing to get it off the barbs.

Thanks for the info guys, for now I have used a couple of cable ties which has helped a little. Will have a look into the coils to see if they help.

Worst case I will need to re-plan my water loop - got plenty of spare tubing lying about so no problem :)

Nah did a test on some spare metal I had lying about, and with the cold weather (no where to dry inside) it just wouldnt go right, so come summer I will probabally do it then when I can leave it to dry outside wth no problems.

Only pics I have is:

I suggest mounting the rad the other way up with the barbs facing the case, making hole in the case to suit the barbs. You would probably need to get some stand offs though such that the rad as a couple of inches away from the case to give you more room to work around the barbs. You could cut out a fair length of tubig that way.
