I've recently purchased the following from OCuk:

3 x Samsung S23A700D monitors
MSI R7970 GPU
2 x Startech MDP2DVID

I can't seem to get my monitors running at 120Hz. I'm a little lost as to what could be causing the issue. DXDIAG says that I'm running 5760 x 1080 (32 bit)(60Hz).

What should I / can I do to get them running at 120Hz?

Cheers

The monitors require dual link DVI for 120Hz.

I see you have 2 mini DP to dual link DVI adapters.

Which MSI HD 7970 did you buy?

If it's the Lightning then the DVIs on that aren't dual link.

I assume you are using dual link DVI cables?

Please fix your sig. as well please.

Yes, it is the Lightning 7970 I have. When I purchased it I was told that it would run the monitors at 120Hz if I used the mini DP to dual link adaptors.

The DVI cables from the monitors to the card? They came with the monitors. Are they not dual link then?

The cables that came with the monitors are dual link so that's fine.

The DVIs on the MSI HD 7970 Lightning aren't dual link so as matters stand you could only run 2 of the monitors at 120Hz.

You'd need a third £75 adapter to run all three at 120Hz.

I don't know if you can run two at 120Hz and the third at 60Hz for desktop use.

For Eyefinity you certainly can't.

Perhaps just try the two monitors connected to the adapters on their own and see if you can use 120Hz then.

There is a firmware update for the monitor here.

I've no idea if you need it or if it will help.

Unfortunately yes.

Or if you're still able to You could swap the Lightning for a HD 7970 which has a dual link DVI (most do).

I'd still suggest just testing the two you have connected with adapters on their own just to make sure there are no other problems.

I'd love to but it's got nothing to do with me, I don't work for OcUK.

Unfortunately you would only have had 7 working days to return the card using the Distance Selling Regulations.

Even OcUK's new 14 day satisfaction guarantee can't help I'm afraid.

Lol, yeah, I knew you don't work for OcUK, it was a kinda rhetorical question.

No matter, I'll just get another adaptor. I'll be passing OcUK during the week, so I can get one then.

Cheers for you help mate.

You're welcome.

Perhaps you should order one to be collected at the shop.

I don't know how fast they sell but there are only 5 left.

Have you tried the monitors connected to the adapters on their own yet?

No, not yet. The way my system is wired up makes it a bit of a nightmare. My unit itself is at head height. It's a task and a half, but I'll do it tomorrow just to be sure.
