A Level Choices - Choosing a subject you didnt take at GCSE?

I think that without the rigid structures of GCSE essay writing techniques branded into your head, you can do slightly better WITHOUT GCSE.
Ofc the extra knowledge does help when going into the fine details. However, it all depends on what modules you will be studying as they all differ from school to school.

My History teacher encourages us to break out of the rigid structures and develop our own styles and techniques. If they are worked on properly with the teacher, your essays will benefit as a result. It will be you doing your essays your way.

Just my 2 pence.

It doesn't matter..

Three of my A Level subjects I had never studies pre 6th form (well one of them was General Studies - the other two were Government and Politics and Computing).

But then the subject I'm doing at University, I had never attempted before in my life, and now I've added the 'With Econometrics' meant for those who did A Level Maths... except I'm the only one on the course who hasn't done it.

I agree to some extent with Phog, GCSE/A Levels constrict your frame of mind but when you go on to University, you're "fresh" and easily "moulded" to the Universities perspective rather than your "colleges" (if that makes any sense to anyone...)

tbh all 3 of your courses have people complaining at my 6th form

geog is fine enough thou
history is ok, teacher is what makes it bad
every1 hates Phys, highest dropout rate of any course, my suggestion, take 4, so that if you dislike one you can drop it and continue.

what do you want 2 do with your life anyhoo?

I was under the impression it doesn't matter at all what you choose as long as you're setup for uni.

I'm considering starting all over again because I chose Art, Photography and I.T and this is my third year as I've been sick for the past 2 years and all I have is one D in as I.T to show for it. The thing is I'm hating Art and Photography now because I'm missing the more acedemic side but with other subjects if I miss time off die to sickness I can't do a lot of it at home.

I'm pretty screwed tbh I can't see myself in uni till I'm in my 20s. :(

i took business studies at A level and had never done it at GCSE where as everyone else in my class took a GNVQ for it at school...still managed to pretty much top th eclass though :p

Geography A-Level is Ok, you probally do need to have some knowledge for the models and processes. But you could pick them up at A-Level since we you do rivers you'll get told about erosion transportation and deposition, only in a bit more detail. When you do degree you'll get told the exact same processes but they add in a few more!
