A Level maths.

God Maths Alevel has changed!!!

I didn't do Further maths which was at my school: P1-6, M1-6 and S1-x (can't remember how many stats they did)

I did P1-4, M1-3 which I thoroughly enjoyed :) Pure is easy, Mechanics gets hard from 3 onwards. I had a quick look at S1, S2 and it didn't seem that complex, just dull.

But I did Physics, French and an Arabic & Middle Eastern studies as an A/S too, over 10 years ago!!

If you get choices, pick as many level 1 courses. At the end of the day, whether you end up with Mechs or Stats or Decision, you'll still have a maths A level at the end of it. Maths is good in the sense that you can widen your knowledge without particularly ramping up the difficulty.

Do D1/S1/M1 (in that order for difficulty ;))
Then D2/S2/M2 :)

If you do Further maths you'll find you have to do FP1/FP2 as well as C1-4, and that you don't get a choice in extra modules (I had to do D/S/M 1-2)

Well I had to choose today. Went for S2... was the only person so the school couldn't cater for me, ended up in the D1 set instead. Not bad i suppose, both fairly useful in the finance world.

I'd say you've made a good decision. Maths is a well respected A Level and will go down well for most University courses later on.

At AS year, the whole year had to do Stats 1 but at A2 I had the option to do S2 or M1. I had opted for M1 but somehow I was put in the S2 set. Anyway, I tried it out for a week and found it to be simple enough so I just stuck with it. It's a lot more interesting than S1, which really was just GCSE to be honest. I suppose it'll depend on what you consider doing later on. Mechanics is great for a bit of a taster of what you might be doing in later years in Engineering based courses while Stats would be a taster for the Economics/Finance side of things perhaps.

I found the first year to be fairly simple. Core 1 was very much like GCSE but with Differentiation and Core 2 was a bit more hands on. Things really stepped up in Core 3 and 4 and at least for me, it required a lot of time to master. Stats 2 is a breeze. I finished my A Levels this year and came out with an A in Maths. I have no doubt that Maths at A Level was much harder in the past though.

Back in my day it was Pure 1 + 2, Stats 1 and Mech 1 for A-level maths. The clever kids did some extra modules and got 2 A-levels.

People have described the process well. Like others i found mechanics interesting, Stats was a pain as i'm prone to making small mistakes in calculations of long lists of numbers and this menat my final answers were off LOL. Pure was repetitive.

If you want to do any sort of science degree then maths will make it infinitly easier
