A-Level Physics?

Agreed with everyone in the thread saying "do mechanical maths". I did Maths with mechanics and it helped loads with the physics as there's a lot of mechanics in most of the physics units.

It's a good subject, very interesting but it's also one of the most difficult a-level subjects to do.

When i did physics at A level it was all maths. Hated it. Everything was an equation. And then you had to bring in other equations to sort out other ones. Most people that did well were also doing Maths A level, so number logic was in their brain and they loved it.

For me working out the coefficient of friction and such like made me pass out.

Physics is just applied maths, no wonder you got a shock ;)

The college only offers 1 module on Mechanics at A2 level:

The third module is a choice between:

* Mechanics 1: Modelling, Vectors, Kinematics, Forces, Newton's Laws of Motion and Projectiles. or
* Statistics 2: Bivariate Data, Poisson distribution, Contingency Tables and the Normal Distribution.

Definitely will be doing M1 instead of S2 - really not looking forward to S1 even, I love Math but hate statistics.

Is that what people mean when they say Mechanical Maths, or do some colleges actually have a separate/additional Math subject?

------

If Physics is mainly lots of equations hopefully I should enjoy that too, it's more the particle/universe module(s) that I'm worried about.

Thanks again for the replies everyone.

You can take mechanical maths as an A level, where you do C1 C2 and M1-4
whereas a normal A level in maths is C1-4 S1 M1
M1 overlapps greatly with physics.

Shame you can't do C1-4 and M1-2, I did this for my A2s!

I'd much rather do C3-4 than M3-4 :p

I got an A in Physics, A in maths and B in Chemistry at A-level.

Maths was easy, hardest being chemistry.

Physics wasn't too difficult, as long as you revise for the exams, you're golden and going to get an A.

Depends on what college you go to, because some colleges dont have the teachers for a particular course, my college had trouble finding a stats teacher half way through our course! (wonder why no one wants to teach stats?) although all a level maths teachers should really be able to teach the core, mechanics and stats modules.

If your not going to do further maths, do mechanics, stats and decision are both terrible.
