A Levels/College/6th Form - How is it?

Hey guys,

I've recently started college this week, did my GCSE's this summer so just left school.

Just wondering how many other people have started? And how are you all finding it?

I took: Media, Business, Photography and geography. And I already know I wanna drop photography, totally not my thing. Thinking about changing to a Level 3 IT Btec, but I don't know if my college will let me? I need to enquire soon. Public buses suck too :p Don't know many people either, but I guess everyone will get to know eachother with time.
 
Don't they offer any real courses where you went?

I started 6th Form at St Brendan's in Brislington (Near Bristol) last Monday and for me it is awesome. I have quite a few mates going too but it doesn't really make much difference for me as they are just people to sit with in my mahusive breaks. I'm really enjoying meeting new people and public buses are actually not bad because it's good fun with mates. People reading erotic novels in front of me. A bus stop in some ones drive?! Crazy stuff.

Basicly it's awesome. Getting used to harder homework and more work in general is annoying but I'll give it a month to get into the swing of things and hopefully not miss too many homeworks. Getting to know people is quite easy really even for quite shy people like me. Start talking to people then hang out with them which leads you to the rest of their mates and so on :D

Courses I'm taking are: Philosophy, French, Music and History

The thing I love most about it is, even though it's like school because of lessons and so on, I love the relative freedom. Wearing what I want, being responsible for everything you do there, the free periods (soon to be filled with work) and doing subjects I'm genuinely interested in.

I hope things work out awesome for you too :D

Apart from Photography and the fact that geography has nothing to do with Media and Business they aren't that bad?
 
business and geography are respectable subjects, have no experience with photography.... i'd research IT before you take it.... at my school people who did IT thought it was a disgrace of a subject (we're talking bout alevels right?)..
 
I LOVE COLLEGE. Richard Huish college in Taunton, supposed to be one of the best in they country. I'm taking Media, Business studies, computing and physics. having a really good time and i am glad to be away from my last school, where I was treated badly because of my dyslexia

I left last November in my 2nd year and started fulltime work, worst decision ive ever made!

Hopefully going to wrangle my way onto a Music Tech course this week though :cool:

Its tough A levels, deceptively so. About changing subjects. Change them as earlier as possible, then you'll have more time to do the work.

Funny you should mention that, I was going to change Physics to something like Latin or German, but I thought nah **** it.

To anyone who thinks they might like physics: do it! It's hard, but it's far more interesting than the other subjects that I'm doing

In terms of social life I found college to be a lot better than school but it can be a little daunting particularly if you don't know anyone. Having went to a school in a poo council estate, I didn't know anyone on my particular campus (there was 3) when I got there but you will find yourself finding friends quickly, just do your best to talk to people.

Which exam board are you doing Physics with, and which spec. Wait until you get to all the quantum physics stuff, and some of the exotic stuff later in A2 about quarks.

It's great to see so many of you guys doing physics. Out of curiosity - would you not prefer to be given a rigorous introduction to the basics, rather than a watered down version of the fancy advanced stuff? I.e. would you not prefer to be able to calculate the time it would take for a ball to roll down a hill or model the elliptic orbits of the planets; rather than being able to reel off the different flavours of quark or to quote E=mc^2?
 
Started an Access course in Social Sciences. Seems interesting so far, bit of a mind **** at times though, particularly the Psychology classes.

I echo the comments above about talking to people. I didn't know anyone on the course, but just start talking to anyone as soon as possible in class, makes things much easier the sooner you do it.
