Is it possible to drop subjects during the year? I've already done one term of lessons but the teacher is an absolute ponce and the work sickeningly hard - it's beginning to make me not want to go to college and drop out because of this one subject.

Thanks.

Yes, it is. Ask your head of sixth or whoever is in charge at your college.

Alternatively, I got told I couldn't drop out of a subject so I just never went again, no repercussions happened at all and I just carried on doing my other subjects. That was last year, and I'm still there doing my second year so they didn't kick me out or anything :p

They should let you transfer or drop the subject. If not.. Just dont go to class? That's what I did when I took Law and hated it :)

I would if I could but I have EMA and rather enjoy the £30 a week plus bonuses :p

Another EMA recipient here, sorely regretting taking 5 AS levels though - I think most of the time its okay to drop a subject, its just taking a new subject up thats a big no-no for obvious reasons.
And yes, I really don't enjoy physics either, but i'm gonna stick with it for the rest of the year ;)

So how does one get this 'EMA'? I didn't get it, can I claim? Does it get paid pending your results? Sounds good.

I've only taken 4: Further Maths (counts as 2), Economics and Phyics. Maths is pretty easy but Physics is just on another level of its own - I can't even begin to get my head around even the simplest things even though I got an A in it at GCSE; it's ridiculous. If I can drop it I will asap and just stick to 3 and try get A's in all of them. Aslong as I have my maths i'm happy as I plan to do it at uni also.

My teacher is like that but he offers no help neither. He told me to read through chapter 5 and understand it - so I did but I didn't understand it. I told him I didn't get it and asked if he could go through it with me some time and he said: "I'm not going to spoon feed you, learn it yourself" and walked away a week before the exam (this was today). How am I meant to teach myself something that I totally can't understand?

Yeah i'll do it tomorrow. The subject in question is Physics by the way :o

If you doing your as level physics at the minute it gets a lot easier in the second year and towards the end of the first. At least i found it that way

I dropped Classical Civilization after the 2nd term as it bored me to tears. My Head of Department told me that I had to go but I never did, they even entered me for the exam but I did'nt attend. I simply told them that I did'nt like the topic, in my second year I picked up Psychology as a AS to make up for it.

But my other grades in Sociology History and Drama where good so I balanced it out. Also I think after a while they just let it drop, I still received EMA aswell. Now I'm in Uni with a 2:1 in Sociology and Criminology so don't worry about it. If you dislike the topic that much just ask to drop it, but don't leave because its to hard.

yup.. exacly the same no help... i've asked for help he just say you need more that's all and walked away.. last year all my teachers were good and i've done all my work on time now with this im always late same as my class mates

I dropped a subject half way through the year. it was ok'd by my form tutor and the head of the college but the teacher of the class i was dropping was a right pain. he kept refusing to sign the form so in the end the head of college just signed it for him

If you're taking Further Maths you should find Physics easy? What can't you understand? I'm not so good at the maths, got a B in GCSE maths, and haven't taken it at A level. I struggle with the maths part, but understand the concepts of it easier than most of my class.

That's what I thought and that's why I took physics alongside maths. I think it's because with maths I just need to learn the formula and learn how to use it but with physics I just don't understand. I don't understand any of it - at all. I did a practice exam paper today, out of 60, I could only answer 6 1 mark questions and wasn't even sure if they were right.

The quantum side of physics is very hard to get a grasp of. It's about the only thing at sixth form I've struggled with so far.

Yes... I dropped Maths because it was horribly boring and more effort than I was willing to put in :p (I got an A at GSCE, but couldn't get on with AS/A2).

I find Maths at A-Level relatively easy but i'd do better sitting a Latin exam right now, even though i've never done it, than doing Physics even though i've been to every lesson. It really just does not click with my mind.
