A lil confirmation needed.... (HD Related)

Heya peeps, I'm figuring my hard disk is on its way out - I'm experiencing "lag" during normal computer use where the PC freezes for a few seconds and then catches up with itself. Also, I can occassionally hear clicking noises which also leans me towards it being a hard disk issue. Are these common ailments of hard drives on their way out?

i would say so, doesn't sound like you've got to long either before it goes to the great hd maker in the sky

It doesn't sound too healthy so it is probably worth downloading the drive manufacturers testing software - Seagate use Seatools, Maxtor have Maxblast etc and running it to see the results.

You know it might just be a highly fragmented file system, whens the last time you defragmented it?

it was indeed the hard drive - just spent all evening re-installing windows etc onto a new disk. Thanks peeps

bad blocks, disc errors, corrupted partition table, bad sectors..
a nice reformat followed by an utility repair software should restore your hard drive to peak conditions
