My lovely kids have been playing frisbee with my motherboard driver disc now unusable.will i be able to load a fresh copy of xp (only have sp1) on the sata 2 drive or will it need drivers.also i dont have a floppy or usb drive so whats best way round problem if thee is one.
Does anyone know where i can get a copy of my motherboard driver disc been looking everywhere cant find it board is a asus m2n mx.

If it's XP with SP2 then it should install anyway, SP2 has loads of SATA drivers included.

:edit: Also click here , have a look through. Should be there somewhere.

SP2 has no more disk controller drivers than any other version of XP. If you run a SATA drive in anything other than legacy IDE mode you'll need to supply drivers.

when i installed my new sata 2 hard drive,

plugged it in, bios detected it as sata due to sata cable

loaded windows xp sp1, then downloaded all drivers from mobo website,

you only need floppy driver if going to run it in raid

My SATA chipset (Intel 82801EB) needs drives from a floppy, and it's not running RAID. :(

Funny, one version of XP I needed a floppy, another recognised it straight away.

Might be that I got it off a mate who'd slipstreamed the drivers in?

XP will only read extra drivers from a floppy although you can use nLite to slipstream them into the install CD itself so that they appear to be part of the base install.
