A little question about Ryzen, b450 and ram speeds

So I’m looking at upgrading to a ryzen build and the motherboard in question is the MSI B450M Mortar Max (mAtx build).

It states on the motherboard specs that it supports 64GB of ram clocked at up to 2666 mhz, which can be increased to 3466 through overclocking.

My question is do I have to buy 2666 mhz ram and then overlock it above those speeds if I want it faster? Or do I buy faster ram and it will just run at 2666 on its own? Also will faster ram be compatible if it’s over 2666?

Thank you anyone for info as the ram confuses me

Buy fast ram and run it as high as possible. Anything between 3200Mhz and 3600Mhz is good, but go with what your budget can stretch to.

I've got some Micron E-die 3000Mhz Cl15 happily running at 3600Mhz Cl14 in a MSI B450 Tomahawk.

Cheers my man, I have another question for you . The Corsair vengeance lpx ram in the description of it goes on about how it optimised for intel boards, will it work on b450 ryzen? I need low profile ram because believe it or not I’m still using a noctua nh d-14 and have minimal clearance.
