Rain or shine he pushed his two wheel bin cart around the streets. He collected oil cans from the chippies and drink cans from the waste bins in the square and around. Anything he considered salvable which would fit on his cart, he rescued. The council wanted him to leave his council home but a petition secured his tenancy.

Today was his funeral. The police diverted traffic away from the church so that a sizeable crowd could gather. Afterwards the cortege progressed through the town preceded by two police officers and two more brought up the rear, behind the procession of local people.

A common sight around town not to be seen again. Goodbye Slick.

Sad, there used to be a tramp in Northenden, near to Gatley where I used to live. He'd pop in to my garage and ask for anything he could weigh in. Pushed one of the old and now valued Silver Cross prams' around with all his possessions in it.

I got chatting to him and could tell he was an educated man. Turned out he was once the headmaster of a good private school, but couldn't handle the stress and ended up mainly on the streets. He said he was happier than any other time in his life previously. Lovely gentle man and fascinating to talk to. Could identify any bird from its song, cite its Latin name and give a full account of its breeding an migratory habits. Sadly he just "disappeared" one day. Can't even remember his real name, which is terrible, we called him the "Bird Man".

Nice to hear Slick got a good send off!

I didn't know this man, but other people have kind words to say about him. He passed away and it is sad. RIP
