A Memory Of Light - WoT 14 - The End.

I just started book 1 again, I always promised myself when this was out I'd read from 1 - 14 straight through.

Taking my time with this, 5 chapters in. Enjoying it a lot so far, the pace is pretty good.

Phew, finished @ 3 last night. Dunno what to think, I'm feeling a bit empty mind you. Some elements of the book are fantastic, some are terrible. Obviously a hell of a lot of threads are not completed.

I think it will take another read through to fully digest though..

Damn.

450 pages in as of going to work this morning. I think I will slow down a bit now as my wife will complain if I spend aother night reading from the moment I walk in.

I'm just re-reading the 13th book to refamiliarise myself with the story before I read the final book.

Cant believe that after all these years the story is finally going to end, and I don't think its going to end well for some of my favourite characters :(

Who are you favourites?

Mat, Perrin and Rand will be ok. As will all of the main girls I think.

I can see Thom dying though :(

Finally finished - just waiting for others to finish so I can discuss spoilers now :)
like what the hell happened with the pipe
. Perhaps another spoiler thread is needed?

Finished.

I think this book and the ending summed up why I have stopped reading and particularly enjoying "pure fantasy" as I call it. The good guys are good, the bad guys are bad and good shall triumph over evil. I enjoyed it, I have read for years and enjoyed it but it is no longer a style of writing I like.

I knew Rand, Perrin and Mat and the rest would live. He sacrificed a few characters for shock value but overall it ended too heart warminglu and wrapped in a pretty bow.

It was all just so cuddly and cute, it reminded me of star wars episode one with the action jumping around every few pages, we are winning! Ooh, ooh we are losing.... And we won. Oh and a few minors bit the bullet to make you truly believe it was close.

I feel really conflicted in that I both loved it and hated it at the same time :p I was wanting Logain to let loose, Rand to die and the cringeworthy ending with Perrin, /vomit. It felt a little too rushed and too neat (despite not closing some stories) then the Fain thing could have been interesting, but wasn't. The only closure I liked was Cadasuanne's, liked her getting dragged off :p

Oh and Rands final battle was probably the least interesting part of the book which was a huge shame, it took a unique angle I wouldn't have expected but it was boring. It would have came across better and infinitely more dramatic if it had been dealt within one chapter not a paragraph every 100 pages.

Bring completely honest even though it was a thousand pages it felt very rushed, it felt like a Michael Bay book (if he was an author) pew pew! Explosions! Amazingballs! Zong! PEW PEW! Ok Michael... But why, how?

There were some interesting twists and all in all it was a great "pure fantasy" series and all said and done i enjoyed the book and the series, but I can safely say I will never pick another series up like this again :)

Agreed with pretty much everything you said.

I must admit after praising Sanderson for the way he moved the last two books forward I feel this one was a bit of a letdown. I'm glad the story is complete, but I dont think he did particularly well with this book. It felt similar to the last book of his Mistborn series, too rushed, too hurried, too much going on, no time for any real character depth just endless (and massively repetitive) action.

The whole Perrin vs Slayer story arc was a massive dissapointment, all I kept thinking throughout the whole thing was Neo vs Agent Smith. I also hoped that the Padan Fain showdown would be a lot more epic than it was, to me it seemed like it was a few lines just to tie up one of the loose ends.

The showdown between Rand and the Dark-One was... meh. I guess he tried to throw us a curve ball but it was incredibly dull in my opinion, there was absolutely no tension to it all. Also what did the two women there do? Seriously two of the main characters in the whole series and they spend the entire book just standing there for about 5 minutes of action? Argh!

Ah well, a dissapointing end to the series - but I'm glad the story is all wrapped up. Its a series I'll look back on fondly, but not one I can ever see myself reading again.

Joining in with this very late but I bought my copy at WHS on launch day for £12.50 which was cheaper than Amazon and available immediately without waiting home.

On my second read through and I still think that although it was rushed and I would have liked more emotion and less action, it was a generally satisfying ending to the series.

Yes, of course, it might have been better if written by Jordan instead of a stand-in but then again if Jordan was still alive, we'd still have another six books to go to wrap up what every individual fighter in the Last Battle was wearing.

So I finally finished this a couple of days ago.

I did really enjoy it but somehow the ending felt rushed.

We have this massive build up to the final moment which lasts for almost 900 pages and then BAM! it finishes in about 20 pages.

The whole body swap thing is never really explained as far as I can see. Unless I missed something?

I did feel sad that Egwene died though :(

I also felt characters who we have seen a lot of during the books barely featured in this book. Moraine, Nynaeve, Neald, Grady, Fain etc. That was a shame :(

To quote myself, I just finished book 14 :) I am not a slow reader generally, I have had little time to read over the last year but (obviously) managed more than 1 book a month which isn't bad going (there was a month or two where I just slept on my train and didn't read at all) but I promised myself to have WoT completed by the end of 2013... and I literally just finished book 14.

I feel like another book is needed (yea yea I know I know).

One thing disappoints me, no reunion between Rand, Perrin and Mat at the end. Quite a significant thing to miss due to the whole circular nature of the series.
