Started by getting pulled @ 99.85mph on a 3 lane dual carriageway in no traffic. Currently investigating getting off it on a technicality...

Had a fantastic day though, drifting a Ferrari 550 Maranello, driving a Porsche 996 GT3, Lotus Elise, Racing Puma amongst others.

Pics, videos and comments on all the cars to follow :)

Sorry to hear about the ticket m8. :(

Though the rest of the day sounds like a storm.... What did you thing of the 996 GT3 then?

i demand pictures :D

sounds like a fantastic day, minus the speeding. 100mph in your vx isn't much more then a brisk stroll i imagine.

Current worst case scenario is 3 points (my first) and £60...

The GT3:

The cabin is a nice place to be, the seats, comfort spec are supportive.

The gearbox is good but there is a bit of play in the gearstick.

Driving position is good.

Steering is light, there is feel but coming from a car without PAS it is lacking something.

Turn in is very positive, far more so than I expected, it just really shouldn't be that good, it just doesn't do understeer.

The engine note is fabulous, it changes with minute throttle inputs, it really sounds angry, so direct and responsive.

You can feel the rear of the car shifiting, pitching and rolling purely on throttle adjustment, far more so than anything I have ever driven.

It feels like a car that you'd have to be very careful in and takes a lot to master, but is so rewarding.

I'll comment on the others in the morning.

Take the three points like a man and consider yourself bloody lucky! It's not worth the risk of going to court, a judge might ban you for that..

Lucky you wern't doing .25mph more :p

I'd take the points as it would have to be one hell of a technicality to get you off for doing that speed.

Sounds like a good day out though. I feel that I should have a weekend of car related fun sometime this year :o

Sounds to me like the copper was perhaps being generous? Isn't 100 the threshold for a court appearance?

I thought I was lucky getting 3 points and a fine for 97!

Somebody (cough cough) has got off with 95mph on the dual carriage, being stopped by the police imprezza and getting off scot free. That was a lucky day unlike today. :D

I've seen one of those Ferrari's in the flesh (Stradale)?

Was minding my own business one day, had the window down, nice sunny day. Then all of a sudden a red thing flys past my window at full chat! If I weren't wearing a seat belt my head would have gone through the ceiling! It scared the living poo out of me :p

It was being chased by a Integra Type R (early type), I don't think it stood a chance though

Fantastic day had by all i think

Driving the VX was simply a joy, i didnt push it anywhere nearly as fast as muncher did but every second of the drive i felt connected. THATS how motoring should be, no fancy crappy driver aids holding you back :) My next car is going to be one of these next year, ive got the RWD bug ;)

The FRP was good, the sprint to 100 feels nice and quick but it runs out of umph after that as expected ( its geared for power through gears ) But power in 2nd and 3rd was fantastic so there was loads to give when going into and out of corners. Handling wise it was spot on and it gave me plenty of big grins so this DEFENTLEY wont be the last track experiance it has.

I also had a passenger ride in a Porche turbo X50 which was breath taking 175 GPS it managed. The braking down from that speed was incredible and properley pushed me in my seat.

Honda NSX was mental, The noise this thing makes was out of this world and the way it handled , well i never thought such a large car could handle that well :o it evan performed pretty well when the guy was drifting it full lock styleeee haha

BMW M3 CSL was very nice , ive been in elliots around donny before so i knew what to expect and this one didnt let that down. Sounded awesome and performed around the twisties. It just feels so "composed" like its got loads more to give.

And ofcourse the VX220 with muncher driving, you could see he has done it a few times ;) It wasnt the best on the straights oviousley ( when coming against 550 bhp porkers ) but around the bends it was just amazing catching with pretty much everything.

The stradale is one of my all time fave ferraris and if i came into a serious amount of money thats the car i would buy. They are noisy, unfortantley too noisy for most tracks it seems these days which i find infuriating.

New brake discs for a stradale - £27,000

Off topic but I thought I saw your old car parked outside my house the other day Sam, as it had W27 LAP as it's number plate which I thought was too coincidental, turns out it was :p

Yea I thought it was strange as it was a blue zetec-s!

Looked like a good day you went on, where abouts was it?

Nice pics sam, hopefully some good video footage to come too.

The FRP is really pretty impressive, a few people were interested in having a drive of it. Stops well, turns in well, exactly what a hot hatch should do. As I said yesterday, cars are all about how they "feel".

Impressions of the Elise S1 - was a standard 1.8.

Very similar to the VX, a fair bit more tail happy though. Turn in was positive, nice front end grip, though rolls more than the VX does. It just wasn't quick enough though, the engine and gearbox really let the car down. The speedo didn't work, the seat isn't anywhere near as good and somewhat flexible. Anything in a straight line just felt a bit of a let down. I expect a 111S would be different though.

The Elise owner drove a couple of laps of mine and said they were pretty similar, turn in isn't quite as spot on due to the tyre sizes but the drivetrain and sound it makes is vastly different. He said if we has buying again he'd be seriously tempted by the VX.

The Ferrari 550Maranello:

Is a big, big car. Interior is OK apart front the lovely gearstick and gate, nice but not seriously impressive. The big V12 provides a nice soundtrack but is quite muted and seems very distant.

The clutch is extremely heavy and the gear change requires some effort, would certainly become a pain in London traffic very quickly. Has bags of torque, completely linear power delivery. The steering is light and it is pretty nimble for a big, heavy car. A nice amount of feedback.

It's pretty easy to drive and not at all intimidating, very easy to hold a big sideways drift too. I said to the owner that I could have quite happily drive it straight out of the gate and taken it for a blat with confidence. It does very well for a big car and has superb balance and would be quite easy to drive rapidly on the road. I do want to compare it to a V8 Ferrari though, hopefully next time as I think that would be more my cup of tea.
