Hello everyone , its been a while since I last graced these forums but then again its been a while since ive dipped my toes into overclocking, so long that my last rig was a q6600 ... yeah.

So here is my issue(specs posted later)

I can push the 6700k to 5ghz with 1.3v and it be rock solid , no crashes no burps no errors
and yet it lowers my benchmark scores and causes games to stutter sometimes , im not reaching any thermal limits as it barely goes past 65 on load.

I get better scores and smoother games running on stock which makes no sense to me

so has anyone got any ideas or tips?

Specs:

7600k with Silverstone TD02 cooler
Z170MX-Gaming 5 mobo
16gb(2x8) Geil 2400
GTX1070 Windforce
Evo 960 250gb M.2

Ive had the XMP profile on the memory on and off and it seems to make no difference to any score, i'm using just the multiplier and vcore at the mo to overclock , when i bump to 4.6 i get a slight increase in benchmarks but again barely noticeable and then i get stutter in games and reduced FPS , benchmarks and stress tests complete without a burp but games really suffer for some reason

You confused me with the 6700k in the first post... maybe you need more volts to stabilise then or play with LLC to avoid any voltage drops which might cause the issues. What happens if you run it at 1.4v?

Also are you running shadowplay?

yea I mistyped I meant 7600k , the new i5 one , and LLC ? also I tried the 1.4 and got the same result just higher temperatures

Noticed you have Z170 motherboard. Have you updated the bios to accept Kabylake? (although you may need a skylake cpu to do this)

I am sure it has been reported that even with the bios update, it is still not perfect.

from my experience - DO NOT UPDATE BIOS FOR KABY WHILST ONLY HAVING A SKYLAKE CPU. I done that with an asus by mistake. I could not revert back to an earlier bios, one reason to hate asus, and other asus parts i have had before, bricked. But tha'ts me, and never been lucky and uk support was sh*te

also there must have been complaints as the update was not clear enough and noticed it was high lighted in red a couple of days later!
