Hi folks,

Just had a recent hard drive failure so I'm in the hunt for a new one. I already have an SSD which I've installed my OS etc on to, so I'm looking for something with a fair bit more space to store programs, games etc.

I'm aiming to spend in and around £60

Have been deliberating between these 2:

Is there really much of a noticable performance difference, seems like a massive price difference?

Cheers

Not much different in speed but the 5 year warranty shows WD have much more faith in their product than Seagate's 1 year, that's where the extra cost comes in. Depends on how important and how much you value the data you are keeping on it I guess.

Comparing the WD Black to a Seagate is like comparing chalk to cheese!

The WD has a 5 year warranty for a reason - and not many harddrive manufacturers provide a 5 year warranty these days. Likewise, the Seagate has a 1 year warranty for a reason - because, quite frankly, the manufacturer has little faith in their own product.

I understand that the 5 year warranty is a major plus, but that aside, the drives provide roughly the same performance, right?

Do you (or anyone else) have any experiance running one of these Seagate drives?

Yes speed wise they will be the same.
I don't have that particular model but I do currently use Seagates 3TB ST3000DM001 and a 2TB ST32000542AS. I've had 1 2TB Seagate fail on me in the last 5 years. Never had a WD so can't comment but they do seem to be much more robustly made.
