Hey guys, this is my first ever post here on overclockers, i've been wanting to build a new system for a while now, and for the last week or two i've just been doing research, well, mostly reading posts on this forum... Basically, i'm into 3D art, and want a new system that can render at "Uber" speeds, handle loads of polys, work with high res images, and also play some new dx10 games when they come out. I'm sick of waiting 3 hours for a scene with GI, caustics, and all that sort of stuff to render, and getting slowdown from large image files. I guess it's like a workstation/entertainment hybrid that i'm after. I've read so much stuff about new technologies, processors coming out, I just don't know what to do. It seems the more I read, the more confused I get. Any light you guys can shed on this would be so so helpful! My budget I guess will be around £1500

Hey, welcome to the forums ( 3rd time today! )

Will you be needing a monitor/keyboard/mouse optical drives also?

annnnd will you be overclocking it much?

Yeah i'll be needing optical drives, and a keyboard and mouse, maybe even a wacom if I have some cash left over, and i've thought about overclocking, i'm completely inexperienced but i'd like to have the potential to do it safely with my new system.

Hi, and welcome to the forums (claimed!)

As for a keyboard mouse Microsoft and Logitech do good ones.

Hah that was fast! it all looks great even under my budgets aswell. One question though, I was thinking , along the lines of a quadcore for my proc, do I wait for the AMD phenom or buy the intel one?

The Xeon is a quad core :) *nods*

hah, yeah I just looked it up on here, and found that out, but tried to edit my post before I looked like an idiot, but i guess it didn't work :p

Not heard much about the new AMD stuff, but it won't be out for a while. Would be quite silly to buy Core 2 Extreme IMO, the clocking potential is quite limited really.

Im too fast for you :D and Will is too fast for me. Steal my thread :(

thanks for all the help guys, one more thing, I don't suppose any of you know where I can find benchmarks of similar systems, comparisons etc, preferrably whilst performing similar tasks that I will be? just so I can get an idea of how much performance increase I will get in terms of time, not just floating point operations or whatever.
