Just wondering what the best chip is at the moment with regards to overclocking?

I'm still currently running an Opteron 146 @ 2.9ghz. And it's still lovely even now.

I upgraded my brother not so long ago with the Intel 805D, and managed a lovely 3.8ghz out of that.

Am I right to understand that the E4300 is the best conroe for overclocking?

I've been looking at some quadcore processors, and wouldnt mind maybe putting one of those into my system, But are the Q6600's any good when it comes to overclocking? Is it a simple to do as it was with the 805D?

Basically I'm asking whats the best buy at the moment :D With regards to conroes. Both Dual and Quad.

Thanks

Intel Core 2 Duo E2160 or Q6600 would be the best choice in my opinion, coupled with a P35 based motherboard.

In dual might be worth looking at the 2140 and 2160 both can overclock to 3Ghz+ with the former only costing £54!

But althought the E2xxx series can reach the same clock speeds as the Conroe chips (E6xxx), they have 1/4 of the L2 cache. If you're gaming that's not so much of an issue, but going from 4MB to 1MB is more noticeable than from 4MB to 2MB (which is on the E4xxx series). So I'd suggest the 4300, or if you want quad core, Q6600 all the way.

Couldnt agree more on the E2160 its just great value for money.

My e2160 does up to 3.2ghz at no more than 1.4v. Got it at 3ghz 24/7 right now with only 1.37v going through it.

Cost me £50 delivered to my door brand new too! Definately recommended!
