I currently have a Focus ST and I love it but i'm looking for something else, something that has a decent inside and has a good kick when flooring it.

I'm toying with the idea of a 208 Gti. I really like the look of it, inside and out. I'm unsure how i'd feel with the drop in power though. I can't really think of many other cars that are out there and within my budget, hence why i'm asking on here for some help.

You don't want to be getting rid of a focus ST for a 208 Gti, it doesn't make the slightest bit of sense imo. Have you looked inside one? They are no nicer than the ST material wise - though they've made it look a lot better than the 207 etc.

This is a joke thread, why?

You have a Focus ST, want something with a 'kick when flooring it' and fancy a 208 GTI for £15,000!?

The 208 GTI is a car you buy for £2500 when it's 8 years old. Not a car you spend £15k on. Buy a Mini Cooper S instead. Same engine but fitted to a car that isn't rubbish.

Or just keep the Focus ST as it's already one of the best hatches, that is unless you don't mean a Focus ST, you mean a Focus ST170?

Where do you come up with this tosh from? The 208 gti has been generally well received by the motoring press.

While there're much better and faster cars to spend 15 grand on, don't pass your prejudices off as fact.

I have a 56 plate st 2. I just feel I want something different, when I said I want something with a kick I didn't mean like a st or faster. Just something that can shift. I was thinking to get a face lift st as well. I think I just got the new shiny toy syndrome after seeing a 208 gti up close.

I'm not saying I was a small hot hatch. Just something that is nice inside and out, it could be a BMW, impreza, maps etc.. I just dont know what would fall into my budget and what are reliable.

£15k should get you a Porsche Boxster S 3.2, possibly the newer 3.4 if your get lucky. Both offer 0-60 in around 5.5 seconds as well as being one of the best if not the best handling sports cars in its class. The drawback ofcourse being the running/repair costs due to the fact its still a Porsche.

Other options i personally would consider are Audi TT (personal preference would be the 3.2 V6 at this price point), BMW Z4M, or BMW 335i. All depends how much practicality you need I guess.

Ah actual help instead of getting abused because I was thinking about a 208 gti :p I'd love a Porcshe but I don't think it would be ideal with me having a kid. I was looking at the 335i, I do like the look of them.

^ In fairness i feel the abuse is justified for even considering a 208 GTI when there are so many better options out there for £15k.

Factoring in depreciation it would probably work out cheaper to run a Boxster for 2 years than a 208 GTI by the them its shed £10k of its value in that time and the Porsche has lost a few thousand at works. Man maths at its finest there even though the Porsche isn't child friendly enough for you. lol

It's a bit of a jump from a 208 GTI to a 335i on the same shortlist? They are massively different cars in every way with very different ownership costs?

Hence why I asked for suggestions :p I am also thinking about an r32. Volkswagons seem to hold there value well.

I don't want to just go for one type of car. If I can get something that's better all a round then I may go for a different option. Like I said I seen the gti and really liked it, it's just one option and I was asking for ideas.

My point is that one is a little hatchback with a 1.6 litre engine and the other is a 300bhp RWD twin turbo Coupe. There is a slight difference between them in, well, everything. The 208 will be virtually brand new. The 335i will be perhaps 6 years old..

Did you want a new car or a 6 year old car with all the bills and fun that can bring?

Yes and that was just one idea. Like I said, I have an st so a 335i won't be a huge step up. I just seen something shiny and liked it. I like my sporty cars and I'm not saying I want a small engined one, it was just something I liked and was an idea. I'm unsure what I want.... Which is why I asked for ideas. People that have experience on cars within my budget and can tell me how it's ran and the costs.

M3
Impreza RB320
Evo 9
Z4M
370z
Boxter
R32
Golf GTI
S3

The list goes on and on, all depends how many seats you want, how new you would like it and how much you are into cars in general as some of the cars mentioned above can throw up big bills that will be painful if you're not passionate about cars in general.

An evo 9 is a car I am very tempted by. I've always loved evos. I want something that I can sit my 5 year old in and then I can enjoy when I'm on my own. Ideally I don't want something that's could chuck up massive bills in the short term. I would always get the car serviced and it would be well looked after. My st gets oil changes, brake fluid etc... Changed regularly.
