Hi guys and gals,

I heard a beatles song on the radio a while back and really quite liked it. It had a piano with a clasical piece of music about half way through/towards the end.
Unfortuantely, I didnt get the name of it, so I've played every beatles cd i've got to try and find it, any ideas what it is called? I'm tearing my hair out over this.

thanks in advance

the album i have is the red one, with the big 1 on the front, plus various mp3's on my computer. i think it was either john or paul on lead, not 100% sure tho, this is driving me nuts lol

Was it a ballad or a more up tempo song? My first guess would have been "In My Life" also from your description.

We Can Work It Out is the only other one I can think of (on that album) that changes to a slower part (in fact it changes from 4/4 to 3/4 timing), but that has a harmonium and not a piano.

In My Life would be the obvious answer but it's not even on that album, so I'm stumped!

Well i'm assuming the song he is after is not on the album "one" since he said he has that album, yet heard the song on the radio. Unless I am misunderstanding.

Hmmm "Real Love" has a classical-ish sounding piano intro which is repeated as the bridge about three quarters of the way through the song.

Ah, I must have skipped the radio part! The search continues.

So, it could be any Beatles song sung by John or Paul with a piano in it. Hmm... :p I'm confident we'll still get it though.

I think i know...

sounds like the last track off Sgt Peppers "Day in the Life" has both John & Paul sing on it.

I read the news today oh, boy
About a lucky man who made the grade
And though the news was rather sad
Well I just had to laugh and
I saw the photograph

He blew his mind out in a car
He didn’t notice that the lights had changed
A crowd of people stood and stared
They’d seen his face before,
Nobody was really sure if he was from the house of lords.

I saw a film today oh, boy
The english army had just won the war
A crowd of people turned away
But I just had a look
Having read the book,
I’d love to turn you on...

Woke up, fell out of bed,
Dragged a comb across my head
Found my way downstairs and drank a cup,
And looking up I noticed I was late.

Found my coat and grabbed my hat
Made the bus in seconds flat
Found my way upstairs and had a smoke,
Somebody spoke and I went into a dream

Ah

I read the news today oh boy
Four thousand holes in blackburn, lancashire
And though the holes were rather small
They had to count them all,
Now they know how many holes it takes to fill the albert hall.
I’d love to turn you on...

God I love that song... And those lyrics... Perfection. :)

Anyway, i'm not so sure it's the right song though. A Day in The Life does indeed have a lot of "classical" elements but that is down to the strings and not the piano. I would guess we are talking about a song that has a specific, distinct piano solo.

Although having said that you could be right and I could be misinterpreting the OP's words. Maybe he means the song has a piano in it and has a classical sounding part halfway through/towards the end. I read it is the song has a classical piano part halfway through.

I think we need some clarification from the OP. :)

yeah OP where are you, there is a piano bit before Paul come in and starts singing, if i had not read the comments on this thread i would have said without doubt 'In My Life'

I also thought the OP meant there was a classical piano piece halfway through the song  I was hoping he had more than just One when I asked him how many albums he had :) My search will continue.

sorry I havent replied for a while, work has been mental. Still no luck finding this song, thanks for all the suggestions, the search continues.....

I assume it's not A Day In The Life either. Can you confirm if the song has a piano in it and a classical sounding part halfway through or if it has a classical piano part halfway through.

i have every beatles song, so if you give me a bit more info i can tell you which one it is..

right, I have found the song, heard on the radio again today, it was mr blue sky by elo, i thought it was the beatles, very similar musical style. Thanks for your help everyone, eventho i told you the wrong band.

Don't be ashamed, ELO borrowed very openly from the Beatles. Jeff Lynn also played with George Harrison in the Travelling Wilburys, before going on to not only produce Free as a Bird and Real Love for the Threetles in 1994, but play guitar and sing on those tracks also.

Oh and their song "evil woman" provides the hook for the Pussycat Dolls' song, "Beep" :)
