A quarter of A4

If there was an image on the paper then you would need to reduce both the horizontal and vertical axis by equal amounts otherwise you will distort the image (no rotating the paper 90 degrees won't work)

So trust me the correct answer to the question "What is 1/4 the size of A4?" is A8

I'm fairly certain images dont change the physical dimensions of an object or there inter-relationship with other ISO defined dimensions of similar objects. However, if you quoted the wrong post then that's understandable!

True, but you quoted me saying "A2 is double the length and width of A4, and A3 is double the area of A4".

I'm fairly certain that no matter how many images go on the page or how the images are rotated what I said will hold true.

Beserker was the one who referred to page orientation. ;)

Bah your correct I quoted the wrong person.

I do apologise. And for the record your statement is correct, also.

But 1/4 A4 is A8

210/4=52.5
297/4=74.25

A8 is 52x74

End Debate

An interesting interpretation of 1/4, for sure. By area (which is the interpretation 99% of people would probably use) 1/4 A4 = A6, by length 1/4 A4 = A8. It's the old 'to double the length you must quadruple the area' rule that I agree - a lot of people don't get.

Thing is though, any sane person will be dealing with areas.

If I asked you for 'half of that piece of paper' and it just happened to be A4, would you give me back a bit of paper that was A5 or A6?

I would have though almost everyone would give back half the area, ie. A5, even if the dimensions of the sides have not been halved. Thus in ordinary speaking terms, a quarter of A4 would be A6, as i'm 99% sure Thorpy would have been speaking in speaking in such terms.

No it's not. At all.

There are FOUR A6 sheets in an A4 sheet.

A quarter is ONE FOURTH

Which is what Manlove stated as well. His calculations are based on a quarter as well. The question is undefined as it doesn't state whether it's area or dimensions, in which case A6 or A8 could be the answer. Simple really!

After slight further thought:

:p

Quarter of the side dimensions clearly does not give you a quarter of the paper.

16 pieces of A8 fit in an A4 sheet. It's a quarter of a quarter.

Anyone stating that a quarter of A4 is anything other than A6 is a ****ing dunce.

Paper is FLAT - of course it's done by area.

A6 is a quarter of the area. A8 is a quarter of the dimensions. Both are mathematically correct. I really don't see the issue in understanding.

Because you're justifying something that's clearly ridiculous by pedantry.

Honestly - if someone asked you what a quarter of an A4 sheet is, would you say A8?

HONESTLY? In real life?

That is what the OP asked. The answer is A6.
