Hi Guys,

I have recently been looking at upgrading my 6 year old pc with the following specs:

i5 - 4690k 3.5ghz
GTX 960 4gb
8gb Ram
Z97X Gaming 7 motherboard
600w psu
1tb SSD (recently bought)

The issue is that I can only play recent games on quite low graphical settings and Photoshop/ Revit often lag with larger file sizes and processes.

My questions is: can I get away with just upgrading the GPU and Ram on my current setup, rather than spending £1,100 on the following parts?

i5 10600k
RX5600 XT 6gb
32gb Ram
z490 Gaming X motherboard
750w psu

I would appreciate your thoughts on this, thanks guys.

Tough one... cpu over 6 years old and DDR3 so going 10600 will be much snappier at stock and will blitz old kit with 5ghz OC.
A compromise might be to drop a s/h i7 4790k in with another 8gb of ddr3?

Which games specifically do you want to play? You could always get the graphics card first and see?

When Photoshop lags, does Task Manager show excessive memory usage, or is it the CPU?

Its the memory that lags, so ill see about the GPU and Ram upgrade, if it makes sense to just upgrade entirely since i'm buying components I might just upgrade my entire system. I want to play AS Valhalla, Dirt 5 and Flight Sim. When I played AS origins it was on a med-low setting.

Ill have a look at some GPUs that will fit my current set up then.

Thank you all, I looked at the cost effectiveness of buying a better GPU and DDR3 Ram and I have decided that I am going to go for a full upgrade. Luckily I have found someone willing to buy my current setup for £300.

Thanks all for helping me make this decision.
