Need a little clarification on these panels, I'm not to hot on screens.

Basically, been waiting and waiting for freesync to become available as I have crossfire 7950 setup. What happens down the road if I decide to change out the 7950's for Nvidia next offering with regards to that freesync? By that I mean, it's a 144Hz panel, if I get an Nvidia card I'll just have to use V-sync to control the tearing correct?

any good videos or reading that you guys can link would be awesome. Just been reading in the other threads, but arguments turn me away.

Its not beyond the realms of possibility that Nvidia will support Adaptive Sync at some point in future. Plus screen tearing can also be somewhat reduced by capping your frame rate and such.

To clarify, your 7950's are only capable with video playback and power-saving purposes, gaming adaptive sync('Freesync' gaming part) is not supported on 7950.

As it stands right now you will have to decide if AMD or Nvidia cards are you preferred. The only potential bonus with Adaptive Sync is that at some point Nvidia may be forced to support it. So if a few years down the line DP 1.4 requires Adaptive Sync support for full certification then Nvidia either adopt or stick with older versions of DP. That would be idiotic, imagine future Nvidia GPUs only supporting DP 1.2 or 1.3 when AMD and Intel are using DP 1.4.

Remember newer DP standards bring many improvements, not least of which is bandwidth.

Makes no difference to you for gaming. Sorry. Freesync for games isn't supported on your cards.

yep im aware of that but thanks anyway. Was just wondering how it would pan out for the future with regards to 380X or 390X

cheers though

It don't help the fact that OCUK has it listed as Freesync instead of what it actually is

They should be listed as G-sync/Adaptive-sync monitors. or A-sync even
Have to agree.

Freesync is most probably just the "generic" way of exactly how Adaptive Sync is, so calling it "Freesync" would cause the confusion of people thinking it's AMD proprietary when it's not. Though would Nvidia decide to update their existing or future cards to support it is another matter...

All future graphics cards will support FreeSync.

Nope, all future graphics cards will support some form of adaptive synchronises refresh rate. Free sync is AMD's thing, it's what they call their implementation of their graphics cards interfacing with a monitor that supports an adaptive synchronised refresh rate. Come on, you've been told this countless times.
