A Question Regarding Weight Loss

i think im gonna find another doctor for a second opinion. even with no exercise, the amount i eat should promote some kind of weight loss, even if its the bad kind that wastes away all the muscle :)

if that fails, ill have to reconsider living :D

thanks for all the replies

For whats its worth I have lost the best part of 2 stone in 8 weeks without doing anything drastic.

I cut out fizzy pop, half the sugar in my tea, no crisps, chocolate, sausage, bacon or white bread etc etc.

I now eat lots more fruit than I did plus skinned chicken breast, turkey, stack loads of fresh tuna and other oily fish and I always have some veg/fruit with a meal.

And I bought myself a new mountain bike and have been out on it a lot.

Slightly of tack.....one thing that does get me thinking is the sugar in fruit and how it compares to refined sugars.

To be honest I have no idea what my calorie intake was before and after so to speak.

nothing drastic? you have completely changed your lifestyle from eating crap and doing a lot less exercises, to a better diet and lots of exercises. thats quite 'drastic' tbh :p

Well done :)

Shame that wouldnt work for me since i dont drink fizzy pop, dont drink tea, never been a fan of chocolate, dont buy crisps and sausages & white bread are evil so havent had that for 7 months :)

I think that a visit to your doctor may be needed, if the calorie count is accurate. Yes, your body may well now have a very slow metabolism due to the amount you eat, but there may be other reasons too.

Try increasing your calorie count slowly to 2500-2800 and see how that makes you feel.

Good luck though, at least your making the effort. :)

Edit: Are you taking any vitamin supplements? A multi-vit might also help to ensure you get some of the minerals & vits that could be missing from your diet

I think if nothing comes from the doctor visit ill try and up my calorie intake to 3000 or so and see what happens.

Id imagine with my metabolism so slow due to lack of food, it wouldnt be a wise idea to add an extra 1500 odd calories to my system overnight? :)

No multi-vitamins. But ill look into it, cheers

Hi mate, I'd really recommend a 'refeed'. You have almost starved your body for so long that your metabolism has ground to a halt. Give this article a read:

Refeeds

Give this a go, you have nothing to lose.

That is a very very interesting read. Thank you

Only strange part of all that is the fact im never tired or lack energy :)

Okie dokie, before i decide on what to do i was given this by a friend of a friend of a friend....

cheese + mushroom/onion/tomato omelette (breakfast)
chicken sandwich (snack)
chicken + rice with steamed veg (lunch)
2 bananas an apple and an EAS protein whey shake (pre-workout)
maxim carb drink (post-workout)
cheeseburger (dinner)

his workout plans involve 60-90 mins of cardio 5 nights a week from monday to friday and 3 nights (monday, wednesday, friday) of compound weight training).

Now, aside from the shakes, that doesnt appear to be much different calorie wise than i already eat. Admittedly it would be more exercise than ive done in the last 7 months, but at this stage i would have thought 2 60 min sessions on the bike and 2 hours of badminton would be enough to lose something from my frame.

Since that has done very little for me over the last 7 months, i have my doubts as to what this will achieve for me if i try it.

All thoughts etc are appreciated

Thanks
Ian

Not too bad before workout. After workout its looking real bad! Post workout you are eating powders and junk food. The maximum carb drink is no good for weight loss either.

Id go for:

1. Whey shake, 50g oats
2. Chicken + tomato sandwich (wholemeal bread, 150g chicken)
3. Tin tuna in pitta & apple
4. 500g Natural yoghurt
Workout
5. Whey in water after workout
6. 200g chicken breast, basmati rice, veg.
7. 150g cottage cheese, olives, salad etc

This is approx 2000 calories, with a decent nutrient breakdown.

My thinking is this, morning cardio everyday, something like a 2 mile run, must be before breakfast.
Followed by, much later on in the day, heavy weights routine.

When my bro cuts for competition he eats just boiled rice and chicken, no sauces, everyday for a few months. He doesn't even really do cardio, yet by the end of it he's around 5% bf. Which looks scary I might add.

Focus on protein. Get down to the gym, and speak to people in there, they will usually be happy to help.

haha ask people in my old gym theyd probably throw a weight at you :P - Would you actually go around asking random people? lol I wouldnt unless I knew them :S

I been in same situation as you with a slight difference; 6ft3 and got to 21 stone. Gordys advice is good for people following the usual routines but I adapted to my own and after years of it I know what I can/cannot do.

All this should/must eat this and that meh dunno never worked for me.

I just did light cardio on empty stomach in mornings on weekend and either an empty stomach or after a very light meal in evenings on weekdays. Once I felt I got better I upped cardio, once you begin to run its all uphill from there (as long as you have light meals). Once the weight dropped I started weights around 19 stone (very light....lifting like 10kg struggling on bicep LOL) after a cardio session.

Later on (at 16 stone) I fell to 3-4 days a week. I tried for 2 months doing cardio on one day and weights on another ~ I developed muscle a lot more/could lift a lot more but didnt like it as sometimes Id miss days and mostly miss out cardio, which led to more weight.

Right now I do cardio 4-6 days a week for around 30-50 mins then a weights session of 30 mins-ish.
