Hi folks i have never built a PC before and after some research ive put together this system ready for order at OC, if anyone would be so kind just to let me know if this is all compatible to be built together?

My main concern is the motherboard which i am struggling with for this setup. I want a p55 1156 sata 6gbs crossfire(possibly later on as im running a 1 x 5870 at the moment in this setup) with 16x16 and 8x8 (im totally new with all this so bear with me if i have said things slightly out of context). I understand if/when i crossfire i wont use 6gbs??

Anyhows this is the motherboard i would like you to take a look at and let me know if it has all of the above and also if all the setup below is compatible?
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-389-AS&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=1693

Also would an i5 750 be able to run 2x 5870 if i decide to put another in?

Setup i have planned as a total newbie hehe....

i5 750 - 1156

Asus ATI - 5870 x1

Velocityraptor 300gb

4gb dual chan ripjaw

Antec 650 true power

The cooler i chose doesnt seem to exist on OC - Xigmatek Dark knight

BD/DvD/rw - guessing these are compatible with everything ?

Monitor of no interest really but i will add it - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-133-SA

I have chosen either of these two cases - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-157-LL&groupid=701&catid=7&subcat=
or
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-184-LL&groupid=701&catid=7&subcat=

Will both these cases fit all of this inside?

As i said my main problem is the motherboard, so if there is too much of the other stuff to look through would appriciate some advice atleast on that.

Many Thanks folks for any advice and replys.

Peter

I dont know if your aloud to liknk to competitors websites but.

raptors arnt that great anymore picking yourself a nice f3 would be good

is your main purpose gaming ?

because you could save yourself a lot of trouble with your mobo, future upgrades you could just go for a nice AM3 and a 955 :)

I think you're confusing 6gb/s SATA HDD speeds and PCIE interface speeds. If a motherboard supports 8x/8x crossfire then it'll be fine for 5870s in crossfire.

The i5 750 would be fine for crossfire, but have you considered going AMD? (AM3 seems to be the suggested platform currently for better futureproofing).

Nobody tends to use VR hard drives these days as they're noisy and not that much faster than the best 7,200RPM drives such as the Western Digital caviar black 64MB cache (or Samsung F3). If you want a quick system drive then buy an SSD + another drive for storage.

That's a good choice of power supply.

You should remove the Amazon link as links to competitor sites aren't allowed.

Nice choice of cases, either would be fine for your build.

Hi thanks for responding, yep sorry if that isnt allowed i wasnt sure its the only component OC didnt have.

Yes its mainly gaming and some small business use.

I was told the raptors were very fast as i said im very new to all this, do you have a link to the drive you are talking about? Is it fast ?

Yep i was told about trying the setup you are talking about but i dont plan to upgrade maybe only another 5870, either way i will give this PC away after 2-3 years and start again.

Thanks for your reply

Wow those hard drives you listed are a lot cheaper and if as you say there isnt a lot of difference i may well swap to those.

Is the Motherboard i listed up top 8x/8x compataiblie i couldnt find it anywhere saying it was?

Link removed thanks for the heads up

Thanks again for any input

Wonderful thanks for the answer, looks like thats the mobo i will use then. I was only put off by gigabite by some stuff i read about a fault with bios or something easily fixed by people that know what they are doing i guess but it just seemed abit more complicated for me to do as first build so i was looking for an Asus mobo that as far as i can tell has had all good reviews.

Many Thanks for your fast responce

No worries, just thought I'd add that someone else could probably suggest a cheaper crossfire 1156 motherboard but my knowledge of the different i5 motherboard isn't that extensive. Just checked the Gigabyte website on a couple of different boards and that one said it had 8x/8x support.

hmm lol this is why this new hobby of mine that i have just started is just so much fun im finding, so many choices.

Wish i had started this earlier in life, anyhows this setup has taken me like a week to review on web pages with no help and an absolute beginer and decided on it.

If i keep changing my mind i will never build one hehe.

Il be happy if it doesnt explode, i can play games on it for 2-3 years and it looks nice.

Thanks

Just by an off chance the amd build you are talking about what would it roughly be? would it work out a lot cheaper with the same performance ?

A small list/links if you have time of what i might need main components?

Thanks either way

This lot is going to cost me around £1500.00

Is there anywhere i can check an Amd setup of similiar performance for a lot less money?

a link or something shopping list possibly.

Im guessing processor, motherboard? all the rest would still fit into the AMD build?

Thanks

For 1500£ i would really go with a i7 set up, the mobo and ram shouldnt really cost much more, just abit more for the CPU and im sure you could cut the cost of something else you wouldnt really need.

Hi yes that thought already crossed my mind,it would probably cost me and extra £150 to get an i7 930 setup.

I was told that i would never use the i7 capabilities for what i want it for, do you say this because of better future proofing with 1336 socket possibly being used for new chips and the 1156 being end of line for upgrades?

Could you reccomend a good mobo for 1336 that has 8x/8x crossfire as im useless at finding this out.

Thanks

Yes it looks like its better for me to go with an i7 setup, its only going to be an extra £50-£100.

Thanks for taking the time to make a list.

I just noticed the Bundles OC have which also work out neary the same price and they build it with an overclocked chip, seems good value to me. Only difference is some different makes of power supply and the case i will phone OC and see how much it comes to as i dont want to go a lot over £1500.
This is the bundle i was looking at http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FS-101-OE

What do you guys think? i would want an SSD still and swap the hardrive for an samsung f3(they are around the same price anyhows), plus a 5870 card.
Also a i want Blu ray RW.

Do you think that the 650W PSU is enough with this bundle to run 2x 5870s at a later stage or would i also need to upgrade that?

Possibly this bundle with all of the above - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FS-030-OE&groupid=43&catid=1444&subcat=

which would you guys recommend if i went down that route.

Thanks a lot
