Hi all,

Couldn't decide whether to put this in the memory or mobo section so move it if its wrong.

I will hopefully soon be getting a P5B Deluxe in my new rig, along with either some OCZ Platinum PC-6400 or some Crucial Ballistix PC-6400, depending on their pricing closer to the time.

I have heard that some people have problems getting RAM to run on a mobo, due to the auto voltage setting being too low. As this is my first build, I don't want too much to worry about so I thought I'd ask now. I would also rather not have to buy some ram just to change the voltage.

So my question is, If I get the Crucial Ballistix, rated at 2.2V, should it boot in a P5B deluxe without me having to change the voltages?

Many thanks,
gamer

That was one of my worries, so plumped for this mem in the end. And that booted ok. Though I needed to sort out the timings and up the voltage a bit to get it to it's CAS4 speeds.

I have heard that some people who don't boot first time have had some luck by booting with only one stick in, instead of the two, and also by trying the one stick in different slots.

The Ballistix boots fine at 1.8v. Its SPD is preset to 5-3-3-12 or something, and that is high enough to enable it to boot at the stock 1.8v.

Crucial Ballistix 6400 booted up fine on my system too at the standard 1.8v, in fact I haven't even bothered to up the voltages as I forgot at the time and then haven't bothered as there were no probs with it running at that. The default timings for my RAM were 5-5-5-18 so had to manually set them to 4-4-4-12 but that's the only change I made.
