A quick squeal

So, when I'm driving along and do a slightly aggressive gear change, or pull away briskly I sometimes get a quick squeak/squeal from the engine bay. It sounds like I've just run over a pigs toes, its not muffled either, I can hear it over the radio.

The car never squeals at any other time though.

Whats the damage doc'?

Probably the clutch plate making contact as it bites. How does your clutch feel ? Good or on its way out.

Or just a loose Alternator belt.

:D Or your engine mountings could be loose/knackered causing engine movement when loaded up.

Man i will be here editing all kin day. :p
What to do.
Get someone else in the car with the hand brake on. Open bonnet and get them to put it in first and lift clutch till it bites. Watch for excessive engine movement and listen for noise. try not to get run over in the process.

Usual disclaimer if you do. :D

Clutch seems fine, I've done the old trick of 5th gear at 30mph and floored it, and it just accelerated slowly, no slipping.

However when I reverse off my drive there is a nasty creak, like a loud crunch from the front of the car. I guess that is something else I should get sorted :o

Infact sod this, whilst I'm here, below is a list of problems with the car I'd like to try and get sorted, but need to know what the problem could be.

1.) Vibration/Droning over 60mph, steering wheel shakes.

2.) Car sometimes pulls to the left or the right, if I brake quite firmly. The steering doesn't pull when acclerating, cruising or braking gently.

3.) The car creaks nastily when turning at low speeds, reversing off my drive, parking etc.

4.) The car cuts out when approaching junctions etc, starts up fine however.

5.) See issue in first post.

Good car innit? :o

1. tracking
2. see 3.
3. something suspension related is broken, what sort or creaking?
4. something electrical related is broken.
5. not a belt slipping noise is it?

Its just like a cracking creek noise, especially when the front of the car is taking some weight, e.g. reversing into the road and the nose of the car is pointing down for a second or too due to the slope.

Does it usually happen on near or full lock? If so it could just be the springs and so not a problem.

Good car innit? :o

1. Wheel out of balance, easy fix, go to a tyre place and have the wheels balanced

2. A brake caliper might be starting to seize which forces more braking on one side than the other. This causes the car to pull to that side. The brakes might need a strip down and a clean, replace the discs and pads at the same time. If there's a vibration when you apply the brake at speed, that's a warped brake disc and that will need replacing.

3. This might be just creaky suspension bushes, so nothing to worry about, but keep an eye on it in case it's an engine mounting going. Might be worth a look to see if they are perished and nothing is rubbing

4. No idea I'm afraid. I'd be able to pinpoint it in an older motor but since it's a modern car it could be all manner of electric trickery. Could be a bit of dirt in the carburettor, could be the idle speed is set a bit too low, could be the slow running sensor is up the duff (if it's fuel-injected)

5. Probably the fan belt slipping a bit. Just needs tightening up on the adjuster, normally on the alternator.

Hope that helps, doesn't sound like anything disasterous to me :)
