Hi guys, as some may or may not know, ive recently got my golf mk2 driver 1.6 through its MOT.

Its been sitting on my drive for about 2 years with the intention of driving it as my "first car" However when i passed my test i never had the funds to fix it and get it through an MOT (even though it needed no work in the end anyway ... ) And was given a work vehicle in the mean time which put getting this one road worthy to the back of my mind.

Im going to be insuring this tomorrow via the internet or phone (with elephant) and im looking at grabbing the tax asap. Now i know at the post office you need to provide the MOT certificate, and insurance paperwork, and this is where my question comes in.

What do i need to give the post office to enable me to tax my car paperwork wise from elephant? And how long will it take elephant to sent me said documents?

hope that makes sense

many thanks

Reason i ask i id like to be driving this car around this weekend but i dont want to be held back by having to wait for paperwork etc.

you need V5 MOT cert and your insurance cover note/letter to tax a car without the V11 reminder (I think thats what its called) normally takes up to 5 working days for insuarnce docs to arrive.

unlikely to be caught but yea as you say just not worth the hassle! just wait till the docs come through and then tax it I guess, could do it online but it will take just as long

Update: I just purchased my insurance and got elephant to send a cover letter to me via fax. Any one have much luck with this instead of paperwork? Im desperate to get this car on the road for the weekend :(

free to try, might get lucky. Also, if you do manage to be able to do it online, you'll technically be taxed (just not displaying) and so unlikely to get done, tbh

Adrian Flux usually email a copy of the certificate if you ask so you can just print it out. I've never had problems taking that to the PO. Elephant may be able to do the same, or you maybe ok with the fax. Worst they can do is say no!
