A quick thread explaining Sapphires Manu codes (Ref or not ref)

Right seems a lot of people are getting upset with non reference cards so i thought i would do a quick post to help explain what the Sapphire PN's mean:

So for example lets look at a 5870 like this one: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-218-SP&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1502

Right so its Manu code is 11161-03-50R this can be broken down into 4 pieces:

The first digit (11161-03-50R) is what tells you it a Sapphire built card:

1 = Sapphire Built
2 = AMD Built

The second part is the next four digits (11161-03-50R) this is the ASIC which is what we refer to as the GPU.

So 1161 is a single 5870 GPU for example you will also find this is the same 4 digits in the 5870 eyefinity edition.

The next 2 digits (11161-03-50R) is used for the various revision's/coolers ect on the card, these can also change on Sapphire when they have exactly the same card but change something like the memory manufacturer i believe.

And finally the final 3 digits/letter (11161-03-50R) depict what is packaged with the product the R is for retail i believe but the 2 digits represent different bundles of accessories i believe 50 is full retail where as 20/21 are lite retail so come with less adapters and stuff.

Hope this helps a few of you out when making your choice and hopefully OcUK will amend a few of the Manu codes now they know what it all means.

Agreed, I've been looking for a Ref vapor-x, but all retailers seem to have the newer ones. The only place I found that had the 21161 code turned out to be wrong when I gave them a call.
 
Yes the vapor-x's didnt last long on the reference design, and the 5970 has also been changed on sapphire as of the next batch of stock into distribution.
 
Maybe also we can add known current ref boards and info ?
For instance:
VTX 5850 reference board and cooler.
Unlocked voltage control out of the box, on 1.100 volts stock cooling 900/1250 seems pretty happy ...
 
With the number of revisions and different retail versions that Sapphire keep on putting out, I wouldnt be able to blame the retailer for not being able to keep up. As far as they know, they ordered one particular type of card for a listing on their website, and every shipment they recieve contains a different product.

Sapphire make far too many revisions and variation on retailed box contents that it becomes maddening trying to find the correct product.

I for one read plenty of reviews on the 5770 before buying, and wanted ones with Dirt 2. Every review on the Sapphire 5770 stated that it came boxed with Dirt 2 with no mention of the 50R and 20R full and lite retail versions. Of course, I ended up with the lite version despite sapphire sending every reviever the full retail version with Dirt 2, they then only sold the lite retail version everywhere in the UK.

Other manufacturers dont do this. When you read a review on an Asus product for example, you can be sure that what you read in the review is what you get when you buy the thing.

I wont be buying Sapphire cards again anyway, expecting customers and retailers to keep up with 5-10 different revisions for the same card, including different revisions of each type (3 reference card revisions, 2 Vapor X, 2 for Toxic, another 2 per each one for lite and full retail) is just a sick joke, never mind also removing voltage tweak functions even from the Vapor-X and Toxic lines.
