yet over on this thread they can talk all they want about STEAM and buying games http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18188818

plus a nice link directy to STEAM where you can also purchase games OCUK sell e.g. MW2

This is wrong sorry but I contest that the console games forum gets the hammer and the pc forum doesn't.

Agree with this.

I honestly think, the only way to stop all this nonsense is to get over the fact OCUK is not a competitor for the console/game industry lol.

Hardware, yes, that's not on... but when talking about a games shops... Much different.

ags

edit: 3 games for the 360 section on OCUK??? Lol!!! It's more of a hobby nevermind a proper business option selling at the prices they are listed.

Especially when even the moderators don't seem to know how often the rules have changed in here recently and rather than recognise and talk about that just lock the threads up.

Must be that whole new world order Gibbo spoke about :D ;)

Definitely agree with what's been said so far about the new improved competitor rule.
I didn't even know ocUK sold games, and after looking at the prices I can see why I didn't know - they're not competitive.
As has been said, the weekly Steam deals and in fact all Steam sales are talked about in the PC forum without being made unreadable by [competitor] stamps.

I understand that if we don't like the rules then we should politely bog off but the rules should be made fair first, not one rule for console forums and another rule for PC. I'm not in any way trying to 'ruin' the PC forum either, it just seems unfair to say we can't talk about good game deals that are available whilst letting them talk about exactly that.

Just because Steam is a digital distribution (in fact the four letter purple high street game sellers do digital distribution on their site for pc games, oh but pc games competitors are safe to talk about right?) doesn't mean it isn't 'competing' (lol seriously?) with ocUK potential game sales because obviously if we don't know that MW2 is on sale for half price on Steam then we're obviously going to buy it on the ocUK site.

Anyway, it would be nice if the rules were made fair before being revised rather than revising them just to use for targetting the console forum.

If you look, some of the stores do a special offer on newly released games (or ones that sell well second hand) so they might give you Reach for a certain amount if you trade in from a list of games.

As others have mentioned the rules change every week and its a complete farce. Especially for the sake of three games.:(

I'd agree with that completely, especially as OcUK sell a total of 16 PC games, and only 10 console games. The PC forum gets let off with Steam mentions, yet the Console forum can't mention any competitor, because of 10 games.

I understand OcUK's stance on competitors, I really do. I enforced it quite strongly when I was a Don here. It's Spie's forum and he shouldn't have to pay for people to advertise other competing companies. I'm fine with that. What bothers me is how it's different across both forums. Like others have said, I don't want to kill Steam mentions in the PC forum, I just want the rules enforced uniformly across all forums, whatever those rules may be.

That said, it's my personal opinion that the competitor rules aren't needed in here, simply as no-one sees OcUK as a games retailer I would imagine. With only 10 console games sold in total it's very much a small part of OcUK's business, so being able to mention competitors surely wouldn't hurt their business. That's just my opinion though, I'll abide by whatever rules are laid down.

Exactly, none of us are taking business away from Ocuk selling games. Anyone that uses this forum will be savvy enough to find the best deals. The sort of people that will buy games from here are the same ones you see in a highstreet games selling stores getting nagged by their kids to buy Pokemon 54 for £44.99.

I saw once, with free postage as a forum member that they had a good deal on mario kart I think it was. If they continued with competitive deals I'd be all for it.

As I've said before, if your confident in your pricing like one game selling online retailer is you don't care about competitor mentions. They encourage price matching, makes the buyers work harder ;)

As this seems to have caused a bit of an uproar/stir, I'm going to discuss this with fellow Dons. I can see where a lot of you are coming from.

Thanks for listening to us. (If you could also mention to gibbo that if he got a bulk deal on Black ops for forum members only OCUK could make a killing ;) )

I have no idea. I was quiet bemused when I saw the tracking information say it was booked in at Frankfurt, and has now been booked out to Prague.
