A relationship thread with a difference

Meanwhile the little old dears will still continue to come in at the same time each week and spend x ammount on their shopping completely obvlivious to all the effort and stress that went into getting the store just how the person above them wanted it to be.

In my last store that was indeed the case, but the place I currently work is a super-seasonal store. A lot of our trade in the summer comes from tourists and the shop gets very busy. If our fresh displays are looking like cack, gaps all over the place, less than appealing stock on display, then people are less likely to buy it. Of course it's only minimal %age we're talking about here, but that little bit more counts. Bigger sales means bigger wastage allowance, more man hours to cope with the job, more gets done, more stock comes in, and it improves from there. :)

indeed, nothing wrong with being ambious but you have to be realistic about it.

Then again, as Tesco is such a huge company, they probbley have around 100 directors for their departments.

I took it to mean as on the board of directors. At 30, no chance :p

Certainly is a relationship thread with a difference - relationship with your career!! :D

And also didnt see the thread date!

Is a bit sad to see people stick the knife in. GordyR was always a lovely bloke and wrote the Gym FAQ in his own spare time which is still used as a guideline today.

He always was up front about what was going on with his life, his gf troubles and when he gave the music career a go.

Thus, I don't read this (and didn't at the time) as a willy waving thread. It doesnt read like it and he wasnt the chap to do so.

He has ambition and that is nothing to be sniffed at. I spoke with him about Tesco life from the other end of the scale and he listened, which is what few people did at my branch over the 6 years I was there.

So what if he hasn't posted for a long while, he's getting on with it, and to be honest, as much as I appreciate the forums it's probably what I should be doing instead of sitting on here everyday.

dorris will still come into buy her carrots and i will still come in for my salad to have with my pizza for tea.

Nobody will care lol.

Obviously everybody does what they're told, but theres obviously some idiot at the top who thinks it all matters lol.

You say that but it's more important than you think.

I had an interview at Tesco HQ and they had one very bizare example caught on a store security camera. Basically at some store there were two trays of carrots out, one perfectly normal, one that had a pack of unopenned biscuits on it that someone had put there. The normal tray of carrots emptied as usual, but no one would touch any carrots from the tray with the pack of biscuits on.

Consumer behaviour can be very weird at times!

The amount of money they lose from waste is amazing. I can't remember what the exact figures are but I'll look when I'm next in.

you.

i worked at sainsburys during my final year at uni at the time i was there they posted up some stats on how much they lost as in wasted. turns out it was £175k for that year

We were budgeted for approx. £80k/yr and in our final year we were well over double that. Pushing £200k. :o

.

i'm not saying he's a bad bloke, i don't know him from adam! but this is what i call boasting, 'willy waving' was a far better description. some people see it as this, some people don't. props to the bloke for doing well but why bring 'figures' into a relationship thread?

My figures is higher than his figures, it really is

Guess he is not so cool now huh :D

To be fair if he was planning to do it, he would have stated in the OP.

Nothing about his posts reeks of willy waving, if anything I think he was demonstrating that he wasn't binning his gf off on whim for a £20k job pulling 80hr weeks.

The salary is a representation of the reward for ambition. He wasn't even on a 6 figure salary when he posted it.

It's not as if he did it in a dmpoole way (no offence dmpoole) :p

Try formulating your own opinion. It stimulates the mind, and can even be fun!

This thread makes me think the following...

"No matter how good you think you are getting paid, someone else where will be getting paid more for a less stressfull life."

While I hope he has risen the corporate ladder with Tesco, ambitious young Deputy Managers are very much like checkouts............ every store has them.

Question, why does most food retail 'managers' always look like their mothers mated with Goofy? Not saying Gordy looks that way as I'm sure he is a normal looking bloke, but most in my local Tesco's and Sainsbury's look like they have a few chromosomes missing.

Anyway, they are a good laugh every time I go in there. All serious and frowning clutching clipboards and sporting £2 ties, discussing the merits of placing the Mars bars next to the Crunchies or Milky Ways. It really is endearing.

I never understood people that put their career first.

I work to live, not live to work.

That doesn't mean I'm lazy or don't work long hours. For the last month i have been totaly close to 100 hours a week! But this is strictly temporary

I think its awesome when someone finds a career they love and pursue it at all costs.....PROVIDED that it doesnt destroy other peoples lives on the way.

However i am shocked to read that managing a supermarket commands 100k+ a year.
