If you already have a 295 GTX, there is no reason to get a 5870 instead, unless you could somehow run it in SLI/Crossfire. That would be a pretty nutty setup if you could pull it off to work right. I doubt there is a way though.
the other reason you might get a 5870 is for power consumption, as it is a lot less than a 295 GTX.
That review means little these days as its 5 months old on release drivers. Things are definately much closer these days.
Well I sold the 295, got an asus 5870 and forked out only £15 which isn't bad considering, new tech, less power and heat, dx11, warranty etc etc.
Yes in some areas the card is showing less fps but it's only 3-4 and in other areas it's either the same or better.
I can say that this card plays bc2 maxed on 1920 x 1200 with bloom on 8aa where the 295 would struggle with a consistant fps
all in all I'm happy, bring on next month and I'll get another & xfire them
