I was sitting in the sun by a lake with my partner when I spied something below the surface, buried in the lakebed with a bit sticking out. I fished it out and, lo and behold, it was a horseshoe.

My partner assures me that this is a lucky horseshoe, and did some research. Apparently some people say it needs to be hung above a doorway. Some people say it needs to be hung facing upwards like a "U", to collect the luck that the horseshoe attracts. Other people say that it needs to be hung the other way round, like a rainbow, to allow the luck to flow out and into the people around it.

It's very rusty, I washed it with a brush in a bucket of soapy water to get the mud and big bits of rust off, but if I paint over it to make it less if an eyesore when it gets hung up somewhere, surely this will block the luck contained within from coming out?

Please can the hive mind of GD kindly offer some advice on placement, orientation and finish?

Many thanks

The more important bit isn't that it collect/catches good luck, it's that it's iron and the fae can't stand it, so putting it over the door stops them coming in to steal your baby and leave a changeling in it's place.
I can see why they dumbed it down for folk like me.

Will the neeeeighbours like it?

just wondering, if we give you the wrong advise and its hung up the wrong way...and your house does indeed burn down, would the people of OCUK get done for manslaughter for wrong info?
