A stupid question - Orange box help

I know this is a stupid question but do all of the games appear on steam after you have installed the disc on the computer?

I have purchased the orange box from a supermarket and upon installing all I get is HL2 and CSS?! The physical disc is just HL2 (ie only has Half life 2 written on it - dated 2004)?

Is this right?

Sorry for this stupid question but I am completely confused.

The disc will have the old files on and steam will update them.

Ep2 is dependent on hl2 and shares most of the same textures etc.

I wouldnt worry to much. Orange box only holds about 6 hours of gameplay (unless you play tf2 which is pointless as ff2.0 is better and its free!) so it wont be taking up space on the computer for long

Do you have entries for the games? As long as you have given Steam the correct serial number then the games should appear in the list but not necessarily installed.

What serial number? All I have is the disc and the quick reference guide?!

I have no entries for anything other than HL2 and CSS on my steam account after installing.

Mine came with 2 discs, althought there may be other versions. If you are missing a disc you should know when you are asked to insert it.

Your games tab in steam should list all of the games in orange box, even if they aren't installed.
It does sound like you may have just bought half - life 2 - orange box is a 2007 release & my discs carry that year.
I don't mean to patronise but was it specifically listed as Orange box because my Half life 2 game of the year edition came in an orange box too.

That is what I assumed would appear on my steam account.

Here is what I have purchased:

This looks like the orange box to me yet the disc just doesn't look right?!

Are there CD keys for the contents of the Orange box anywhere in the packaging?

And a note to iBot, seriously, nobody care what you think!

Nope only what I have posted above, The case, the disc (as pictured) and a a quick setup guide (which appears identical to the one that I had come with my original CD copy of HL2 from about 2 years ago)

I can't see any serial numbers on it.

Normally a sticker under the CD's or under the manual or even inside the manuals nowadays something like xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx is what you're looking for.

Yep I don't have anything like that ( I thought like you say it would be under the disc or on the disc itself - nothing!)

It seriously looks like this is just the HL2 (original) DVD.

That looks wrong, I have the 360 version and its just an orange disc with orange box written on it. However I do have Half Life 2 on PC and thats the same disc. Looks like the store has given you the wrong disc I'm afraid.

Thanks guys. I will take it back tommorow.

The thing is this was bought from the big green supermarket whereby they receive thegames sealed and just take the discs out and store them in a drawer until someone purchases it. This brings to question whether the entire batch they have received is like this?! (They don't sell the original HL2 as far as I can tell).

Anyone could someone with the actual orange box disc do me a favour and post a picture of it so I know what to check for.

Cheers

If its like the 360 version then its literally just an orange disc with The Orange Box written in white letters. Its probably just a mistake, they might have had a few copies of Half Life 2 still in stock.

Possibly but they don't have them out to buy.

Anyway thats my confusion over.

Cheers for the responses guys. :)

You've been tricked mate. That's the exact CD my copy of Half-Life 2 has in it, which contains just HL2 and CSS. My Orange Box has two discs in it, both of them without any Gordon Freeman picture on them, just the symbols and "The Orange Box" along with some other texty stuff. Take it back and ask them to put the right game in this time.

You might have a bit of trouble though, seeing as you've already installed HL2 and CSS on your Steam, but only they are to blame for that.

EDIT: They shouldn't even be selling that old thing, it got discontinued about an age ago in favour of the sole HL2 pack, or the other stuff it came with. That's the original release disc, made whenever it came out, and kept for not very long.

EDIT number two: That's even the original Half-Life 2 reference card! Seems like somebody's really been going out of their way to make a bit of extra money...

Thanks for the info.

Definately taking a trip their tommorow.

On lighter news however the little Mobility X1250 IGP in my laptop handles HL2 admirably at medium settings so at least I know it will play on it (its no fun seeing if it will work on my main computer lol :p)
