Just out of pure morbid curiosity which of the following would you pick if they were all the same price and why

This isnt a spec me thread and you have to pick one of the listed cars and list why it would suit your needs

Assume all cars are in excellent condition, same mileage lets say 50'ish K miles with full dealer history and one previous owner and they are for sale at a dealer (I know they are a bit too old but they are good examples)

Its just a bit of fun in regards to some cars I am interested in but cant decide between what to short list, please dont take it too seriously its a bit strange I know but so am I

2004 Honda Accord 2.4 Type-S
2004 Toyota Corolla T-Sport (post facelift)
2003 Civic Type-R (pre-facelift)
2004 Toyota Celica T-Sport
2004 Seat Ibiza Cupra
2004 Mazda RX8 (190)

If I had to use it as my daily drive then the Accord 2.4 Type-S without a doubt.
I'd probably find the CTR too 'hardcore'.

The Ibiza'd be too small and I don't really fancy a RX8 :p

Accord is a strange choice in that list.

If I had the 'Dad of the family' hat on it would be the Accord. Otherwise I'd go for the Type R.

Celica T-Sport.

I no longer need a hugely practical hatch, I fancy a change from the power delivery of my current car and I've always thought the Celica looked the part especially in T-Sport trim.

EP3 Type-R, simply becasue I've had one and it was a very reasonable to run however great fun when I wanted it (all the time!!!). Gutted I got shut of it to be honest :(

The other choice I'd have is the RX8, much more refined than a Type-R, better toys but running costs and requirements that you need to keep an eye on.

I've no doubt you could get a lot more car with something on that list and I;m sure someone would suggest it, but for me the Type-R is just spot on. Raw enough (I love raw) but perfectly adequate for driving anywhere in. I had two people, two grown labs and two weeks of camping gear (6 man 35kg tent + cookers, tables, chairs, food, booze) and it took it all in its stride, even getting crazy air fully laden which the dogs weren't too impressed with!

Interestingly I think most people will overlook the Corolla, as have I. Where do these fit into the market? I know nothing about them and don't see many on the road (or notice anyway).

I test drove a CTR a few weeks ago and honestly I couldn't see what all the fuss is about :o coming from the MX5 it felt slower and wasn't anywhere near as sharp to drive. Lovely seats, though

Drive one if you fancy a change you'll love it

Thats why I like it so much, the pre was ugly and fell short but the post looks really nice and the ARB's were beefed up and its 20mm lower, you get a lot more kit than the CTR too and you can get a newer car in the CTS than the CTR for the same money

They are not everyones cup of tea in how they deliver their power

I'm not adversed to a bit of screamy peak-power-at-high-revs action *points to sig* but it just felt... Lacking :(

could have been a bad one, some of them have been really abused

For a passenger they dont feel quick at all, all the typical traits of a 4 pot NA

I really like the Accord, just love the way it looks but I wish it had a proper cam profile change like the Type-R and the Toyota engines

Out of the cars listed it would be a coinflip on the RX8 or the Type-R, only reason I wouldn't take the RX8 straight off would be because

a) I already have one and wouldn't mind testing out a Civic.
b) It's the 190 and there is no noticable difference between the 190 and 230 in running costs and the 230 has more toys as standard and more power.

I didnt know that about the 190 RX8, thanks. In all honesty though I would prefer the Celica

I'm a bit bored of Honda and crave something different but then at the same time I know if something goes wrong with a Honda I have a number of places I can take it and i've been on the forums and part of the scene for years so its hard to step away, Honda's are money pits too, not in terms of reliability but for modding, they're like lego for grown ups

I thought the same when I first drove one but after doing a few more miles in one I realised what the fuss was about. They're great fun cars, I'd definitely have another
