There is a big fuss about this add down here at the moment.

This add in no way depicts Australia.
You have been warned.

I don't think Australia is one of those countries that needs advertised, everyone see's it as a sunkissed paradise with beaches, babes, bbq's and utes. BONZA!

Well the govenment thinks they need to spend money to get people to come here

I doubt we'll get it for the simple fact that it contains the words "bloody" and "hell".

Well they ahve the UK and the USA in there sights amoungst other countys

It would be like the UK saying something "Come the the UK jolly ol' chap and we shal go have a cup of tea."

Stereotyping the word you're looking for?

Yep but either too many decades late or very off the mark.

I have not heard "Where the bloody hell are ya?" said in public once

Well apart from some guy that i went to school with that always sounded stupid when trying to swear.

Most of us say "Where the **** are ya?" or "Where are ya?"

Is that aussie speak?
Yeah people from england do get called pomes down here. Its used a lot, either that or Britts.

Pome= Prisoner of mother england :)

Funny, i thought most aussies would be Pomes if thats what it stands for.

ZING!

You need to think about it to under stand it.

Its Pome because they are the prisoners of mother england stuck on a cold damp island.
While we were set free on an island with a warm climate and beaches and we got to create a new law system.

Do you understand why they are called pomes now :)

Ah i see what ya mean. How many people down there would have Irish ancestory?

Quite a lot. I think ive even got some irish in me :)
South Australia, Western Australia and The northern territory arnt convict states or territorys, those ones were settles by scottish and irish settlers and imigrints along with some nobal english famillys.

Good lord, you call yourself Australian. I suspect you're Al Gore in disguise. :p

There is no 'e' in Pom. :)

There must be two ways of spelling pome/pom.
I got taught the spelling and meaning i posted in this thread :)

The term that really got me when I moved to Australia was 'bash'. If someone is assaulted, seriously assaulted or almost murdered, on the news and in the newspapers they have been 'bashed'. Whenever I hear it I can't help but think of Dennis the Menace or somthing like that.
I dont really know where that one comes from but its a very well used word here.
Its all so another word for masterbating in some places. "im gonna go have a bash"

LoadsaMoney said:
Classic, i like it. :D

Glad ya like it :D

Dont remember its other meaning though, it originates from bashing someone "punching and kicking someone"
Make sure you use both meanings :)

How many people have been down here from this forum?

Edit: just heard there was some sort of thing with some BBC people not liking the add they have been sent by Oz to play :)

Oh dear young Zip! .... what have you strirred up?

What with your spelling too ......

You will have to think carefully about things before you incite all these young things to cross swords.

Come on now, drink your milk and try to behave in the company of your fellow OCC members.

I don't know, give these colonials an inch ....... ;)

My spellings never been the greatest.
I thought they all needed to learn some facts about Australia and not the mumbo jumbo thats always pumped out by the govements advertisment campains :)
