Dad just got a parcel from O2 (his mobile phone network)
Inside is a brand new IPhone 3G (8GB), his name on the box ... but NOT his contact number.
He hasn't ordered one, his card hasn't been charged for one

More updates after he phones O2 to find out what's up

Who signed for it? ;)

My dad clearly, as it's in his name, delivered to him

He is on phone to O2 atm, and they want the most random information out of him for their "fraud enquiry" his DOB, whether he is a British citizen, where he works etc.

So far he has told them to get lost, as it is none of their business hold old he is, whether he is British, and where he works.

Isnt this the start of the matrix, does your dad wear shades

That was the first joke I made to him ... unfortunately he has no idea what the Matrix is, or who Laurence Fishburne is (he does know Keanu from Speed though)

To be fair, this is just standard stuff that they ask when you call them. Nothing untoward about it. :)

He is spending his time, calling a non free number, to help O2 work out why they sent the phone to the wrong person.
They don't need his age, DOB, etc for that ... they have the "order reference" for this Phone, they have my dad's O2 PAYG account number, and the O2 broadband account details.
That is ALL they need, any errors were made by them internally.

Screw them, he's tried to resolve it, it's cost him money for which he won't be reimbursed, just put it to one side and leave it there until they chase you.

I agree its their fault hes ringing up and being honest they shouldn't be running with 120 questions.

Apparently they need to run though about 30-45min worth of questions with him ... over the phone.

He's on hold to speak to this woman's manager at the moment lol

I'd say well im sorry i dont have time if you want the phone back then you must come and collect it. You will also be charged a storage fee of £10 per day until the phone is no longer in my possession.

Although I dont think you will get away with that :D it might make them hurry up and sort it out.

Unfortunately, that ain't the way things work in this day and age. They probably have a flow-chart or idiots guide to run through with customers who call.

I'm not saying it's right to ask umpteen questions by the way, I'd be annoyed getting asked a million questions too if I was, like your dad is doing, trying to be honest and help O2 get to the bottom of things. ;)

I would have told them to call me back.
