Friend of mine has a Astra VXR, earlier today police drove down the street in a RS focus(never seen them in a car like this!), I said you wouldn't out run them, they disagreed. What do you think? If both cars were standard too.

In the twisties yes, but not to sure about straight line speed 250bhp ish v 220bhp ish.
On the one hand you have a trained copper in a car that would be able to keep up anyway all things being equal. On the other you have some dude.

My money would be on the copper in the RS every time...

Next time you see them race them and find out :p

I would say the RS :)

Here's a quote from a copper about an Impreza from a few years ago "might be able to do 150mph, but can't outrun a radio".

Focus RS
Engine Size: 1989 cc
Cylinders: 4
0-60 mph: 6.2 s
Power Output: 215 bhp
Valves: 16
Torque: 310 Nm
Torque: 228 lb/ft
Top Speed: 144 mph

Asra VRX
Engine Size: 1998 cc
Cylinders: 4
0-60 mph: 6.2 s
Power Output: 236 bhp
Valves: 16
Torque: 320 Nm
Torque: 236 lb/ft
Top Speed: 152 mph

What about equal drivers on a straight run?

As I said on MSN, after the initial trying to get the power down in the VXR, then steering away from the inanimate object the VXR is trying to torque its way into, the RS would have a small lead. Unless you were to take them right up to top end, where the VXR may just be able to pull past the RS.

Yea that would be some race, if you lose you get arrested, if you win, you get arrested. :P I think they are just car proud, as i thought the RS too, but the VXR does have the better specs on paper.

She is taking it to a track in a few weeks and my friend next door has a daewoo nexia with a 2.0 8v from a old GTE in it, with *** and hes going to strip it completly out just in an attempt to mock her, even if he has to blow the engine.

Word up. I agree.

She isn't a typical woman driver. Having driven and owned a lot of fast cars. GSI turbo before her VXR. Besides, I meant with both drivers doing there best, cars at full potential.

What if that some dude turned out to be Micheal Schumacher. Not just the police can be taltented drivers.

Off the line, definately the RS, but when it gets a bit faster i think the VXR would just take it.

The trained police driver will be a better driver at speed especially on our roads than 99% of generic road users.

Besides, its not even a dude its a girl. Even the girls I know say girls can't drive.

I think that 144mph is an underestimation personally. With 212bhp (most have more as standard) they should pull 150mph no problems.

Thing is some drivers are right nutters who can risk everything and still drive 100% on the limit of their car.

Who cares anyway, the car was his so they would only have to send a 1.6 Focus to his house and wait for him to turn up to get a positive ID that he was driving the car :p
