The RS because the police have much better drivers. Plus the vauxhall was actually start ripping apart close to it's top speed until all that would be left would be the frame :p

The RS can put the power down better. The VXR has more power, but it can't transfer it onto the road as efficiently. What's the point in having all that power if you can't use it. I remember in Evo mag I think it was they were asking the question "where does that extra 20bhp" go? The chassis on the RS is probably better too.

Well i'm going to throw a spanner in here and say that firstly the VXR chassis was developed by Lotus (only the finest chassis designers in the world), and secondly, the RSs Slip Diff actually caused the car more problems on real world roads (in corners and under acceleration) than its VXR rival.

Having said that, i'm not putting my money either way, i'm just providing a counter balance to the argument.

It would be close, i've not read all the posts, but does anyone have kerb weight figures for these two vehicles!?

Press cars only, they were set up to be amazing on the track to impress the journalists. I assume Ford didn't expect them to take them down farmer giles' drive though :p

The [roduction road cars were loads better and hence EVO did a complete U turn on their opinion of the car.

Pretty sure the VXR won't have a Quaiffe ATB either

RS = scalpel
Astra = sledgehammer

I'd go for the scalpel every time, amazing car, had a short drive then a long ride in one. Very much want one. Gets all that power down very well unlike the astra. Plus Police driver = good normally! Point to point most people would be faster in the RS, the brakes handleing, delivery and ability to get the power down make the astra look pants!

Tiff put the Focus round a track with a Boxster S - they ran a ghost image of the Boxster's run on top of the Focus's lap and there wasn't an inch in it.

Here's a quote from a copper about an Impreza from a few years ago "might be able to do 150mph, but can't outrun a radio".

Oh so true, guy i lived with at Uni whos dad ran a successful company went through a host of performance cars. One of which (several years ago now) was a Sierra Cozzy. He was trying to get home at around 3am on the M25 doing about 170mph and didnt even know a copper had seen him until he came up on the rolling road block :eek:

Banned from driving for quite a while so hired a chauffeur.

So your telling me a RS would outrun a VXR?

Remember, the RS will be full of Police equipment and 2 officers. THe vxr without all that equipment and one person in.

I think the vxr would win by a margin :)
