A whole load of newbie mac questions!

Yup.

I have very similar extensions to that I have in windows and it acts pretty wierd, for example when I select home page certain times it'll give me a new tab and other times it loads a normal page. I might try a re-install tbh.
Try Camino instead as it is a Mac OS X specific build, I think the extensions still work.

The only trouble I have is it takes a second or two for the Airport to find my wireless after it wakes from sleep. Other than that web browsing is just as fast as on my Windows box, I have a Mighty Mouse and that works great with Safari and Opera for context menu, tabs and mouse gestures.

No speed issues here on my iBook.. the mouse performes the same as all of my other machines (and I'm using a M$ mouse), browsing is as fast any any windows machine. The interface is sweet and makes Windows look like it was released in the 80s.

Just sold my Shuttle to replace it with a Mac Mini which should be here in a few days and I can't see me wanting to use Windows at home anymore (Apart from my 2003 Server)

the extensions don't work :(

i'd use camino if they did, but they don't.....yet.

i used to have an MX1000, but i hated it in OSX...so i bought a Wacom Graphire 4 Bluetooth Graphics Tab, and never looked back. it's awesome...best pointing device i've ever used :)

the *only* thing i've found that i dislike about Mac, is the fact that it doesn't play animation well. that's flash/gif embedded into websites, it's just not as smooth an experience as it was on windows, but as AJUK said, i just feel dirty using windows now :(

edit: actually...there needs to be a decent, 100% accurate emulation of Internet Explorer as well. then i'll be happy.

It's going to be used as a HTPC in the living room :)

I find everything REALLY slow on the mac. For example . . Web browsing it was seriously slow. I mean the concept of one click and browsing multiple pages wasn't doing any favours, I had to move the slow mouse to the top corner to view the page behind it and that didn't get rid of the 1 web browser. If I had used Command + Q it would just completely exit FF :(

Don't get me wrong, I really like the interface and so on, but surely there must be quicker ways around everything?

Are you using things like Expose when web browsing with multiple windows?? Just hit F9 or F10 and you will be able to select the web page you want from the ones you have open. You can set it up so you move your mouse to a corner of the screen to activate this. Also if there is a page infront and you want to close it just hit Apple + W saves you having to move the mouse to close it.

I find an unmodified Firefox really slow in OS X, I would definately recommend giving Safari and tabbed browsing a shot and see what you think. I dont use anything else.

I don't know why people don't give Opera a try. Is it because it doesn't conform to the OS X user interface guidelines?

because it's annoying to set up. i always get to the same place everytime i decide to give it a go - the favourites bar. i didnt like it on windows and i dont like it on OSX

I've just got a Macbook and a Mighty Mouse, but am sorely missing the page forward and back buttons that I have on the Logitech mouse used with my pc. Is there an easy way to page forward and back in Safari with the MM ?

Have you got a mouse gestures plugin?
