A woman as a test driver?!

I'm a little disappointed by some of the negative comments over this. Best of luck to her. It's a shame there aren't more women in motorsport.

I think the negative comments are the exact reason why there aren't more women in motorsport.

Bit of a shock reading Moutons Wiki:

Röhrl had earlier conceded that he "would have accepted second place in the championship to Mikkola", but not to Mouton: "This is not because I doubt her capabilities as a driver, but because she is a woman."[60] He believed that defeat would have devalued his performances.

You have to admit though, 'development' drivers do very little in F1 teams now, so Williams' thought processes behind taking on Wolff must have included the PR they knew they would get from having a female driver.

I mean, can you even name the development drivers from the other midfield teams?

I wouldn't give a stuff if the whole damn grid was full of women, IF they are good enough. Yes this women is only being used as a PR stunt fair enough. The ones that do get in motorsport do themselves and other women no favours by instantly whoring themselves out by bending over a car in a bikini ala Patrick.

No one will ever take them seriously when they do that from early on.

To be fair to this girl these are the only ones I can find of her :D

Regardless of sex I'd be happy for any driver to get a shot of any nationality rather than just having someone race because they are attractive.

Although watching Danica Patrick get booed when she started blaming the car and said it couldn't be her because she was just doing what she always had, so the car must be at fault was priceless. "The fans are hurting my feelings"

Ignore my bias, I can't remember a driver I've detested as much as her :D

It's a shame that it seems to be like that but women whoring themselves out in the name of PR seems to be more acceptable in motorsport than anywhere else. I bet their mothers are really proud of them.

You should have heard Kimi moaning when he raced in Nascar
it's to hot in here-kimi forgot his legs heat shields :D
the car pulls to the left all the time -That's what they do kimi ect

I wished kimi was in a race with Danica because someone could have said "what's it like to be beaten by a girl" :D

Susie's from the same home town as me, knew her back in the day when she and her family would go off every weekend with the kart in tow.

She deserves the chance, no matter what the circumstances, and I'm delighted she's got the development drive.

Haha i thought when i read thi and seen dtm i bet thats susie. Lol and it was, im from the same town as well - maybe we know each other....?

No but if you'd like to send me a link then I'd be grateful. All in the name of gaining a balanced view of course. :D

How did you miss these gems? :D

I don't see how anyone here has the moral high ground when it comes to that. Since when did OcUK get offended by grid girls etc? Don't start me on the "I'd do her" comments.

Patrick's not a spectacular circuit racer (her oval record is a lot better) but I sense a lot of sour grapes around here. Motorsport and PR are inseperable I'm afraid, the sponsor money doesn't magic itself in without conditions.

Maybe because I'm female and I know I'd have more self respect than do that kind of job. It's not about being offended because I don't find it offensive, I just find it a shame that it's seen as acceptable. That's just my personal opinion of course but the same goes for guys or girls in that kind of role. Modelling is different, grid girls/car show girls etc where the clothing is minimal (hot pants/tiny tops/anything lycra and so forth) and being provided purely for guys to drool over is not PR, it's just whoring as has been mentioned by another poster.
However I'm hijacking so apologies for that, more women in motorsport please but preferably behind the wheel as opposed to stood in front of the car. :)
