A4, rear wheel drive??

i thought that you looked down on is200 owners fox? for not buying the 'obvious' better car in the e46.

hi, i drove a A4 2.0 SE this morning. didnt like it :( had a funny feeling it wouldnt be for me. steering lacked feel and sharpness, performace was flat from the 2.0, rest of car was nice though, excellent brakes ect. my parents think im mad wanting to spend that much money when my focus hasnt even been sorted out yet, but at least my dad talked me in to buying a cheap replacement for the focus ;)

i may look at other german/jap saloons, i dunno yet, i like that lexus is200 in black with alloys, well nice. dont fancy having a mondeo even though i know its an excellent car.

Why don't you get something sensible considering your so accident prone?, get a "fast" car when you have more experience and have improved your driving a bit.

I think you're mad as well :D. What car did your dad talk you into getting?.

Nice :D, whats it like in comparison to the Focus?. I was actually thinking of getting one of these as a first car but opted for the extra room the Focus offered as I'm 6'1".

its ok, the clutch is lighter in this then my focus because its fairly new, steering has more feel and the car is abit more chuckable as its a lot smaller but the brakes arnt as good:rolleyes: its really nippy with the 1.25 though, tbh its nicer to drive then the A4 i drove, but the a4 looks so damn good:D

True that but if he doesn't like the 3 Series its a reasonable alternative.

:p

where does the is200 come in the e46/a4/is200 table for you? i notice you dont like the a4, so im guessing e46,is200,a4?

I do like the A4. But it didn't excite me. I'd take one over an IS200 which was just plain slow. The A4 at least has reasonable engines to chose from.

All Quattro cars past the late 90s have a Haldex (earlier ones used a torsen system)I'm pretty sure the standard balance is 90% to the front and 10 % to the rear and only when traction is about to be lost does it shift more to the back hence why some people say its not real 4wd.

The RS4 is 40/60 sure the R8 is 30/70

The A3/TT use Haldex as they utilise a standard VAG platform designed for a transverse engine. The A4 upwards use the torsen system with a longitudinal engine on the quattro variants.

If you want a car that will eat motorway miles, that has a lovely and well crafted interior and that will run to Scotland and back from the midlands on a tank of fuel you can't get much better than an Audi A4 diesel of some flavour. If you want a car that is fun to drive, that has nice steering and good balance, that has RWD and is also a nice place to be with a good range of lumps you won't get better than an E46 3 series. I have no idea if you will get either for the money you wish to spend.

The A4's however are really not great driver’s cars. I have a new S-Line 2.0L Diesel on the drive which I bought for the wife and it’s a lovely car for the Scotland trip outlined above and has a simply beautifully built and laid out cabin. Having said this though it’s a boring car to drive, is very badly damped (sports suspension and big wheels are a recipe for this in Audi speak), has over assisted brakes and a steering wheel that communicates like Tommy (as in the def dumb and blind kid). It will sit on a motorway all day, is relaxing and comfy on a nice smooth motorway and now run in pulls more than well enough for something with no more than 140bhp.

Not on the same page as a 3 series however when it comes to driver enjoyment and if this is important to you buy the 3 series as the A4 will only disappoint in this area.
