Are these active yet or am I not getting the joke? (Pinkham way to Hanger lane) Travel it every day and the amount of people tailgating me when cruising at 52ish on my needle (my bit is 50 limit) is amazing, as is the amount of people doing well into their 60s-70s, few bikers are still doing the odd 100mph+ drag as well. Did I miss a memo or something or is it just ignorance of what average speed cameras are? I assumed when they removed the old gatsos that the specs were in business.

Eh people tail gate me no matter what speed I do, I stopped stressing about bit and just get on with my journey

I believe they turned them on when they finished the road works in march. It's my commute route everyday. When I come back at night I noticed that the LED lights on top of the cameras are on. They weren't on during road works

I see this in many average speed camera areas. On the M3 only on Friday I saw more than a few people ploughing along at what was clearly 70+. I don't know if they don't care or if they're just stupid, but I'm not chancing it.

On the opposite end of the scale are the average speed cameras at the Hindhead tunnel. Everyone seems to panic and slow down to 55-60 despite there being no limit changes and it clearly being 70. Idiots.

So I conclude that people are just morons and don't understand how they work. You'd think with them being around for as long as they have that everyone would be educated enough by now though.

They are definitely active, as are the ones on the A40. Given the vast number of people I see flying past me whenever I drive on those roads, I suspect the authorities only activate the cameras at certain times as they wouldn't be able to deal with the sheer volume of tickets.

The M62 ones apparently weren't issuing fines for months but now they are and it seems whenever I go along there are more people doing 60+ than sticking to the 50!

Just idiots I guess

Fines totalling £1.8m have been dished out to motorists trapped by speed cameras on one stretch of the M62 in just EIGHT months.

Some 17,991 drivers have been snared by speed cameras between junction 18 at Simister island and junction 20 at Rochdale between February and September.

With a £100 fine for each driver who flouts the 50mph speed limit, it means a whopping £1.8m has been handed out in fines.

Using Freedom of Information legislation, the M.E.N. established that cameras on the westbound carriageway between junction 20 and 19 clocked 11,448 speeders.

Cameras on the eastbound carriage between junctions 18 and 19 captured 6,543 speeding motorists.

It means about 73 drivers are caught out every day on that stretch of the M62.
