A64 4000+ SD (939) - Decent?

Its a very good cpu for the price especially as you'll get 2.8 - 3Ghz with overclock.

All of the 754 heatsinks I've seen have been compatible with 939.

Great!! Does anyone know when this weeks specials finish? Also, is OCUK open tomorrow?

I know it won't fit into my current MOBO, I was just enquiring if I could use the fan and heatsink from my old 3000+ on a socket 939 mobo with this processor.

Next Thursday at about lunchtime, and they should be open tomorrow.

I've got one sat infront of me right now and a new X1800XT :) gonna do some before and after with my current 3200+ and X800XT.

Be interesting to see if its a good increase.

Have my 3200 @ 2.5 and was considering a 4000 SD but decided it wasnt worth it.

Please post results up, curious to see the variance between the two. Though i'll need to know if you clocked yours or not. ;)

I'm in the same boat as you mate, mines a Winny 3200+ @2.2 though. The price is really tempting me but i just cant decide. In fact the main thing thats putting me off is that i'll have to update my mobo bios and that strikes fear into my heart  .

K here's the results, all with an X800XT at stock. Gonna put the 1800 in next. The memory is always running 1t-2-2-2 timings. Board is an Asrock Dual-Sata2 with 1.5 bios. My mobo and memory have some issues with each other  anything over 200mhz or any later bios versions stops the computer from booting.

3200+ and x800xt stock settings
2001 19866
2003 9073
2005 5849
2006 1951
superpi 1m 42s

4000+ stock 2.4ghz
2001 25432
superpi 1m 35s

CPU / MEM clocks
2760 / 184
2001 27124
superpi 1m 31s

2880 / 192
2001 27829
superpi 1m 30s

3000 / 200 - 1.375v
2001 28490
2003 12800
superpi 1m 28s

So about 50% faster in CPU bound situations over a winchester/venice at 2ghz and will make very little difference if your GPU bound :p

Cheers for that mate :) , hmm i think i'll defo be held back by my GPU in games (6800GT @ Ultra speeds) unless i get the 7800 AGP card but theres no point really. I think id be best of just leaving it and getting a whole new Conroe rig when some decent games hit. Cheers.

Well it makes Oblivion a bit smoother, and in wow i can max out the draw distance with no slowdown, used to keep it at half way :P

Gonna put the X1800XT in now and see what it does to Oblivion

Nice one, id probably get one if i didnt have to update the mobo bios, i just know i'll bork my mobo if i do that  . I just tryed to overclock my winny to 2.4 to see what it would run like and it BSOD on me :( , i got it to 2.35 and got lower benchies in everest that at 2.2 for some reason, think it might be because i had to put the mem on a divider.

No worries mate.

Thanks for that.

I was going to go conroe or X2, totally new everything, but when I sat down and did the sums I just couldn't afford it. Also, it would be my first ever build and I didn't want to break anything :p. So I was thinking of getting a S939 MOBO and get one of these babies while there on offer, and just chuck it into my old case and keep everything else. Possibly get a 1800XT in a few weeks as well if there still about ;).

I'm currently upgrading to a 4000 at the moment...at the price I thought it was about time ;)

I've gone from a Barton 3200 / 9800 Pro to a San Diego / 1900XT (originally 1800XT but RMA'd)....this last week I've had lots of bad luck...

Ordered the 1800XT (last week offer) and it was DOA on arrival....decided to order an Asrock 939Dual SATA2 while waiting for RMA (at least I could use the Sandy then with 9800 Pro) and got multiple BSODs and freeze ups at stock while running my Corsair LL memory at DDR400...I wasn't happy! Run it at DDR333 and all is fine...tried even Value Select and it still does it :(

Using latest BIOS and I even slacked the timings but it BSODs to hell

I'm now re-considering purchasing an Asus A8N-SLi SE and passing the Asrock onto a friend for a cheap system build...

Glad you're being sensible, so many people nowadays just whip out the plastic for their PC's knowing full well that they can't afford it
