AA billed me for recurring membership - can they do this?

I joined the AA when I broke down last year.

I've since sold my car, but recently they have billed me for membership again. I never agreed to this. When they called me they said that 1 year ago they sent a letter saying that they would do this automatically.

They can refund my money but charge me £14 for the privilege.

I'm not that fussed about the £14 as its nothing, but I dislike the principle here and want to fight this.

Can anyone provide any advice on what to do here?

Kick up a fuss and say you never had a letter. If they still say no, ask to speak to a line manager.

I'm afraid assumption is the mother of all **** ups. I've been caught out with this exact thing too (not with the AA). The moral is - if you don't need something, cancel it. And don't delay because you will forget.

I think the AA do either said car with any driver or the member in any car or something like that.

The they do two prices for example £100 for road and recovery but if you sign up for recurring membership this may be £90 on said example. The do say they will auto take the money on a new years membership.

I got caught out with this, you are suppost to get a new card through the post a few weeks before. I didnt get mine and i guess you didnt get yours.

Its in the small print. They are suppost to send you a reminder...

I did the quarterly billing with them and cancelled after 6 months - they still took the next 2 payments saying it was taken out for a year.....

Dropped them and went Green Flag.

I have been with the AA a few times over the years and its always been a case of renewing automatically after a year unless ive rang up and cancelled it in advance.
